TL;DR Just a reminder that your emotional state affects the mewing progression. Remember to embrace a way to relax. Sometimes it is when you let go, and just let go that the true changes might take place. Those changes may be in your personal life or your physical well-being. A common word used on this site is 'release', right? I know we're talking about the skull and body when we say release, but let us apply it to the spirit as well. Just like posture and function are interrelated, so is the physical and non-physical in your body. Since they are interrelated -- to take care of one is to see the improvement in the other as well.
Find your release, whether it is through dance, meditaiton, writing, watching, eating, talking, exercise, or beyond.
Just a reminder to utilize your release and I believe results will improve.
The link at the bottom is a video I was watching just now by the Youtuber Elliot Hulse. The channel does focus on bodybuilding, but also offers information regarding personal development. There are plenty of ideas there that are relevant, and I've seen many of his videos. Emphasis on becoming the best version/strongest version of yourself. I'm down for that!
THIS video is one relating to the idea of emotions and its effect on our bodies. How it affects you in ways you don't consider.
A summary of the relevant ideas are as follows:
Muscle stiffness is also a byproduct of emotional tension.
This tension/resulting stiffness affects the whole body, but the neck especially. The jaw as well!
This tension can be a lifelong ailment. The baggage we carry with us that just gets greater and greater over time -- especially as we grow up -- can be lifelone until it becomes what he labels as a 'neruotic holding pattern' or in other words a persistent tension we hold in the body especially including the face/skull.
As children we do not have this tension, but develop it over time. (Just like CFD -- funny, huh?); "As we get older and more respectable and neurotic, we clench up and we don't do anything," [to release tension]
In order to release all forms of tension within then you need to ease the emotional tension, which is achieved by you getting emotional release (however you can)
THE BOW is a Qi Gong exercise/breathing exercise you can get some tension release. He also references 'bioenergetic exercises' that follow similar principles.
Another good method is by just going nuts with your words -- yell, scream, talk in tongues and just let yourself go. Be willing to look silly. There's an amazing power to using words to reverse tension, and vocalizing/speaking in tongues is underrated.
Express yourself!
My interpretation:
I believe we are all aware here of the imapct of emotion in our lives. It is a key component of our lives, but I argue it is also something which can make the difference between giant leaps of progress and slow days -- making it relevant to this forum's goal.
For me, my CFD makes me unhappy to say the least and does wear me down, well, most days actually. True. In essence, CFD is on my mind every moment of every day as I am either consciously mewing or realizing I am not mewing then beating myself up for it. Everything and every moment on some level is connected to mewing/CFD/orthotropics. I think you know what I mean. Just that relentless focus on its own is enough to encourage some tension, yes?
Now add on the cumulative effect of life events, uncertainties, and allll this other stuff that you/me/everyone else goes through during the days/weeks/years -- add that up and it is quite significant. A significant weight.
If the idea of our emotional state can +/- muscular and neurotic holding patterns is valid (which I believe it to be) dot dot dot
If that idea is valid then I would connect the idea that some aspects of CFD may be linked to the effects of chronic tension
(any chronic tension because remember the whole body is interwoven and interconnected. If your feet are tense, then your neck may as well be relatively tense as well. Do you disagree?)
link tension's effect to the idea that negative, pent-up emotion can add to that tension.
So I say CFD is either reinforced or healed by our emotional selves.
Even some of the postural and functional ways people use their jaws are emotionally driven. Do people clench their jaws when they are frustrated? I do. As a teenager there were days I'd clenched my jaw so much that it hurt by the evening!
(Edit: In the video, it is said that the body stores/transmutes emotional tension into the lungs. Physical therapists have said that tense neck muscles (so consider FHP, tight neck musculature, soreness, etc etc) is one of the ways the body compensates for breathing difficulties. So perhaps there's this interwoven process by which -- emtional tension -> lungs -> neck muscles wherein the body is all compensating and tension/malfunction spreads like a plague! Paraphrase The jaw is associated with a lot of emotion like anger and sadness even)
So I am asserting our emotions both consciously and unconsciously affect our functional/postural selves. Our posture is integral to our progression. Therefore the emotional is necessary focus on as well, and you know it.
Emotion creates muscular tension, and muscular tension reinforces the emotion associated.
It is said the healthiest people in the world have hobbies. Well, *they* say that to be the healthiest version of yourself you need to have hobbies. Wow. So much of self-help advocates for hobbies. What is my point? Hobbies are one way in which one may release their emotional tension. Hobbies relax you, yes? You enjoy it? Your mind is at ease whilst you are doing this or doing that??
So I consider: Is it that healthy people have hobbies, or is it that hobbies make healthier people?
I had a wonderfully relaxing evening yesterday, and I felt like I could feel more significant progress today. Is that because I just happened to have good form, or perhaps the emotional release of that evening may have had a cathartic release in my body.
Now this site isn't the place to talk about ways to get into the meditative state or something and whatever -- there's tons of places to go for that. This place is about this wonderful, amazing GREAT WORK that we are doing here. But, meh, just had to point out that there is a time and plae to be aware of the interrelation between all the different aspects of our health. Posture and function and form are interrelated. The physical, mental, and emotional health are all interrelated. This is just another aspect of taking care of ourselves.
Doing The Bow is a great way to tackle this. I've done that exercise and the other exercises that follow bioenergetic principle. I actually haven't done it much lately because it is actually an intense experience -- it is difficult to do at times. Yet, I know I need to resume, for my workouts have decreased in momentum ever since i stopped. Do recommend at least trying. Here is a video on how to do a Bow properly.
So, my friends, go out there and speak in tongues! Get emotional release! Relax. Dance, sing, etc etc etc. Enjoy yourself as well ihatever way possible however you can. Best wishes to you all.
