Hi, I can feel that I mew more efficiently, harder while wearing my Myobrace - my skull seems to be about to explode. Mewing without a Myobrace seems to be much easier. Have you experienced this ? What is your opinion about this ?

What size myobrace are you using, and what is your current intermolar width? If anything the adult large size is slightly too small for me, so I don't experience much force of expansion from compression of the activator. It also required some practice to get my tongue into the correct posture with the myobrace in place. If the myobrace is a few milimeters wider than your current arch width, I can imagine how it might give you the feeling you describe, but I haven't felt anything that dramatic myself.

Thx for the answer.

I currently use the A1 designed for adults. I think I have a narrow palate - my lower third is small and my chin is a little recessed - but I have never measured my intermolar width. Do you think I should continue mewing while wearing it ? I told to myself it might accelerate my progress given the strong pressure it seems to exert on my skull.

The A1, A2, and A3 come in a regular and large size. It should list the size on the side of your case.

If you put the myobrace in your mouth without biting down, do the channels of your myobrace look a little wider than your dental arches? While wearing the myobrace, your tongue should still be where it typically belongs on the roof of your mouth. The tongue tab is intended to help you get the tip into position, but you should also try to engage the middle and posterior parts of the tongue. It took me a little time to get accustomed to correct oral posture with the myobrace in place, even though I could already maintain good tongue position without it. I found it easier to raise the back of my tongue with the A3 that has a hollow tongue tab (as in the picture above) than it was with the A2 that has a solid tongue tab. I skipped the A1 rigidity because I didn't have much crowding.

I've got this :  https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/New-D-series-Adult-Orthodontic-Braces-Teeth-Alignment-Teeth-Whitening-Anti-molar-Braces-Dental-Orthotics-Orthodontic/32741163131.html

I could not tell if its size corresponds to the regular or the larger size. I think - but I'm not sure at all - that its channels are larger than my dental arches. Given that I don't have much crowding, do you recommend me to mew while wearing Myobrace, and if you do, which one specifically ?

Ok, so you're using the Dent Care generic brand activator. A few others have reported using the same product (  /community/community/main-forum/myobrace-effect-and-treatment-time/#post-5162 ) and (  /community/community/main-forum/where-to-buy-myobrace-online/#post-8110 ). The listing shows a total width of 6cm, which is about 8mm narrower than my size large myobrace. So it is probably about the same size as the regular adult myobrace.

Since you think it is a little wider than your current dental arch and it gives a feeling of expansion, it is probably a good size for you. If you don't have much crowding, you might be able to transition to the next D2 level of rigidity soon.

I also found these instructions from the listing to be an interesting estimate for the duration of treatment:

  • D1 is soft, the first stage, use 1 – 3months.
  • D2 is moderate, the second stage, use 6 – 8 months.
  • D3 is hard, the third stage, use 5 – 8 months.
  • The correction process is divided into three stages. After using D1 for 1 month, you can gradually use D2 together.
  • Use D2 on daytime and D1 at night. When you fully adapted to D2, you can be gradually use D3 together. Use D3 on daytime and D2 at night. You must wear it every day, normally, there will be noticeable improvement in 4 – 6 months.

These are instructions that I posted in one of the Myobrace threads, which I found on a listing for the knock-off Dent-Care brand trainers. Their D1, D2, and D3 levels are analogous to the rigidities of the myobrace A1, A2, and A3. I started at level 2 because I didn't have much crowding. I'm not planning to use the myobrace for as long as these instructions recommend because I want to continue expansion after I've stabilized my progress from the last round and the large myobrace isn't any larger than my current intermolar width. My plan was to complete 2 months with the A2 and then move on to the A3 and use it about 4 months for a total of 6 months of stabilization. What's interesting about these instructions is the recommendation about transitioning between stages. They say you should use the more-rigid trainer for your daytime hours and then switch back to the easier level during the night so that it is more comfortable to sleep. I think I will try this for about a month once the A3 arrives: using the A3 for a couple hours during the day and the A2 at night until I get accustomed to the higher rigidity.

Just so you know... Myobrace increases facial height.  Says so in their own literature...

https://myobrace.com/storage/app/media/resources/documents/the-effects-of-early-preorthodontic-trainer-treatment-on-class-II-division-1-patients.pdf

That's about 2.5 mm for a 10 year old.  Anyway, people should know this!  It's in their own literature.  The p value for statistical significance is basically 0, which means that the chance that it is chance is basically none.

I surmise it's because it obstructs the teeth from touching.

Okay, so I will keep wearing my Myobrace while sleeping until 2020.

Hey, it's 2020! How did it go with the myobrace? Any progress?

I gave up a long time ago. I wasn't sure the effort was worth it. But I now seriously consider to use DIY palate expander like @Apollo did.
