Hey everyone,
just wondering why orthodontist’s feel it’s impossible that someone’s face and jaw would grow negatively due to your tongue not supporting your jaw and no amount of braces will help correct this once the damage is done
I’ve tried to explain this to numerous orthodontist’s and they make you feel stupid for suggesting this. I’m actually in the process of suing an orthodontist that incorrectly diagnosed me without adressing the root cause of my main issues. However it is hard trying to get this across, maybe in about 20 years the rest of the world will wake up to the damage that many orthodontist’s have caused?
Exscuse my lengthy rant
Well, you are contradicting everything they studied so that's a big deal for them. Plus most people are not analytical by nature, so they can't process something that contradicts their beliefs even if it makes sense. It takes a figure(s) of authority to say that for a while for it to change.
Did you mention to them the ground breaking research of Dr John Mew in the 20th century and how he managed to treat children as young as 6 years old with nothing but tongue posturing, correct swallowing, and nasal breathing?

True @the contradicting something they’ve learnt for years. You’d think as scientists they’d be interested in learning about things like this but i guess because research into this area is still limited they don’t believe it.
i’m going to keep mentioning dr mews work anyway. Thanks
The way to do it is by not pitching it to them but rather asking questions and making suggestions based on their answers. Allow them to come to certain conclusions themselves - I did just that with my ortho and he freely suggested that mewing (did not refer to it by name lol) from a physical and physiological standpoint probably makes sense.
Keep in mind also that most orthos no matter how receptive to new ideas do not want to accept liability for as of yet unfounded and not well researched treatment protocols. What I’ve noticed more rather than them looking bewildered when confronted with the idea of mewing, is them simply being reluctant to engage or encourage since imo it can technically endanger their practice.
My lawd. You are not alone.
I am considering suing my ortho too. I believe I have a strong case. It's just beyond me how these well educated, fully professionally trained individuals so easily turn a blind eye to understanding the root cause of misaligned jaws and teeth. Yet, even when they're told, it falls on deaf ears.
I wonder why they do not want to learn, and expand their knowledge so they can make more educated guesses on how to treat patients. I think most ortho's (traditional) want people in braces (££££) and I honestly think some dentists / ortho's are extraction-happy. SAD.
However, forums like this give me hope that many people are waking up to the horrors of traditional orthodontics and progressively, things may change.
Thinking of suing? Get yourself a top lawyer and go ahead. That's one of the ways all of this can be corrected.
