Swallow Lump

Been mewing for about a week and a half now and my tongue posture is continually changing. It feels like it is moving moving further and further back in my throat. It feels good, like it is anchoring itself in the appropriate position, but I now notice when I swallow there is a large lump that appears underneath my chin and jaw. This definitely is not helping to create a more prominent jaw line. When I observe Dr. Mew swallowing I see no such lump. His jawline actually becomes more defined when he swallows.

Have other people experienced this? And does it go away in time?

After a couple days of experimenting, I have pinpointed two exercises that have had an immediate impact on reducing this large swallow lump. Neither of these exercises are from Dr. Mew, but the outcomes appear to be positive so far.  I do each exercise with proper tongue posture.

1. This is an exercise that I remember learning a while back before I started mewing. I look straight up in the air so that my chin is pointed towards the ceiling. I then do a cheesy grin, and swallow.

2. The second exercise is demonstrated at the 4:28 mark by this rather handsome young man. I first did it as he demonstrates, and then I added a swallow while doing the exercise. https://youtu.be/sdHlbzqzO70?t=267

My observed impact of these exercises are twofold. Firstly, there is a definite tightening in the fascia and muscles around the neck and jaw line area. Secondly, and more importantly I feel, is that the exercises are changing the way I swallow.

After doing the exercises mentioned, I started trying to swallow in the same way the exercises were forcing me to, but with relaxed head, face and neck posture.  Initially, I made the the face from the second exercise and slowly reduced it. I also did the first exercise, and slowly brought my chin down,  still looking upwards but pausing to swallow in the same pattern that I was with my chin pointed all the way up.

I found that instead of the force of the swallow originating from in the top of my throat, it was coming from the bottom part of my throat, and instead of feeling the force of the swallow going out and down, I actually felt the force pulling upwards towards the roof of the mouth, as the saliva traveled downwards. And the swallow lump had greatly reduced.

I do not know the impact of the second exercise on musculature and facial form, and I cannot say if this is the absolute correct way to swallow or not, but it feels better to me. Particularly the feeling that it is extending and lengthening my neck. So, I will continue practicing in this way for a while and see how it goes.
