Hello! Quick update:

1. All advertising has been removed from the website. TGW website will not be monetized. I intend to make the website run entirely based on the needs of the community. Hopefully you will notice speed improvements and fewer website errors as we remove any ad partner integrations. This lack of monetization will also remove any conflict of interest for this website*. Completely dropping the idea of making any income from The Great Work* has freed up my ability to creatively work on articles and/or videos and posts. I no longer have paralysis about article / video quality, this will be a friendly community website and YouTube/social media channel that posts whatever is relevant to the community. If the video is just an unscripted screen recording or podcast type rant, or if an article just seems to be a dump of research papers, so be it. I may pay for some advertising to promote TGW social media channels, and I encourage everyone here to sign up / join where they are comfortable. https://www.facebook.com/TheGreatWork.org

*I will use the authority/pagerank/social media of TGW to promote projects/websites of mine that are intended to generate revenue. I will always mention if I am shilling for myself. TGW will not shill for anyone else. We've always allowed users to link and promote their own websites/media/groups regarding this topic, as long as it isn't a disingenuous cash-grab. I hope I've gathered enough trust from the community that I can occasionally use TGW to promote a side-project or two.

2. The userbase can request to use TGW and its associated accounts. If you want to post an article to TGW, post to TGW YouTube account, post to TGW Facebook account, post to TGW Reddit account as moderator etc etc just send a request. I will hold onto final editorial oversight, because someone has to.

3. I will try to pull in more traffic, and hopefully the community can help with this. The Great Work's YouTube channel is sitting around 1275 subscribers, with 136,280 views across its lifetime. The YouTube channel will not be monetized either. I will start uploading videos on whatever related topic I can think of shortly, and whatever the community requests. A lot of the effort will be towards generating a wider community, pointing people at other blogs, websites, YouTube channels, social media channels, and groups that are tackling these topics. If you would like to be featured somewhere, drop your link below. As mentioned earlier, users can request to use the channel to upload their own videos / post polls / spread messages.

4. The top topics list has been updated: /community/community/postid/38526/. I really want to acknowledge the good posts that people have made on the forum, so far I've only had time to just compile links to the most viewed posts on the main forum. I'll develop that resource further (and hope others can help), and it can serve as a sort of index of threads for new users. One pending task is to break the massive list into sub-topics, and perhaps list off-site resources in the same thread or another sticky.

5. The wiki still exists! Perhaps I will work on it further or it will get more user updates. I don't fault the userbase for not using it, but hopefully it can become a strong source of information going forward. The top pages on the wiki have received over 40,000 views, hopefully we can make more use of it.

6. I will be creating a non-admin account to post non-admin stuff from. I've tried to limit my posting on the forum because I don't want to influence the discussion with my shiny admin flair, but this has meant I mostly withdraw from the discussion. I'll be creating a personal account to post from

I intend to leave the door open for TGW (the website, the YouTube channel, all social media) receiving donations/patron/etc money, but not yet. If donations are ever opened, the costs to run the website and/or produce content will also become public. In the meantime, I will continue to pay the expenses to keep the website and forum running as a neutral, non-biased, friendly community for discussion on these topics.

Hope this sounds good, let me know any thoughts. The Great Work community belongs to you.

Karan

TGW

Why do you think the discourse on youtube channels like orthotropics, jawhacks, best face forward, astrosky, etc. seems to have run its course with few relevant uploads recently? Maybe the Mews have more activity on their patreon? It seems like every teenager has now posted their own video demonstrating Mewing, but there's nothing new to say. Does this reflect a sclerosis of the wider community here and on other forums and blogs? I will certainly be interested to see the perspective you bring to any content you post! I enjoy when videos summarize and discuss books and articles that I wish I had the time to read myself.

The Mew Patreon activity is also slow.

On the internet in general, I believe the activity has slowed down because:

After the "What I learned" YouTube video drove the concept into the mainstream, search engine queries were taken over by large news websites, medical websites like webMD, and SEO optimized business/sales pages. People have to be actively researching for their search string to land somewhere like this forum or other places of active discussion. Almost everyone else is going to reach the 4 paragraph WebMD page which says nothing substantial or interesting - these major websites don't dig into the concept of growth, comparison to non-industrial societies etc. Mewing is explained as a beauty exercise which probably doesn't work, and that's the end of most people's search. The few people who end up on TGW, Aljabri or JawHacks etc usually end up creating accounts and keep the discussion going. That's really where the split is: Between the newcomers who believe that Mewing is an exercise by itself, and those who understand that it is just forum slang regarding the correction of craniofacial / spine issues.

So as for those who understand the wider picture, like Orthotropics, JawHacks, BFF, Astro, TGW, and even Orthotropics, why has activity slowed down?:

Firstly, correction of this issue will be the modern medical miracle of our times. On par with the discovery of antibiotics or immunizations. The amount of medical issues tied to stunted Skull and Spine development (and, in my opinion, nervous system development) is staggering. So this may be similar to wondering why many cancers have no cure yet - it's inevitable, it's being approached from multiple different angles, but apparent breakthroughs seem to stall and stagnate. In the same way we keep getting headlines about a breakthrough in cancer research that we never hear about again, we watched Mewing/AGGA/MSE/ALF seem promising, deliver results, but fall short of an actual cure. Not to dismiss the benefits of any of those methods, ALF and posture especially.

Secondly, and this is just my opinion, we've hit a wall with attempting to change the body through physical force. I think we hit that wall decades ago when we discovered that facemasks/pulling doesn't work in adults, but all of the previously mentioned methods rely on forces in some capacity, and all are focused on the oral cavity. There are some interesting things being done with light force methods that work on the skull and spine, including CranioSacralTherapy in conjunction with the ALF. Rather than attempting to correct the body, these are facilitating the bodies ability to self-correct, which seems most promising to me. I'll attempt to bring the people practicing/receiving these treatments into the wider community.

Thirdly, the lack of new minds/eyes from the above mentioned split between those who find our wider community vs those who find the surface level articles/videos is a problem. There's a lot of great people who could be contributing to this wider community and getting results/driving conversation, but a lot of them never end up actually hearing about the core issue. So many breakthroughs come with someone incidentally connecting two topics or two people together, two or more puzzle pieces that wouldn't have fit together if the right person hadn't been at the right place in the right time to connect to seemingly separate ideas/practices/knowledge bases. I know there's discussions on these topics going on independently in languages other than English, and we're relying on bilingual people to be bridges. There could be someone doing incredible work on the sacrum, spine, fascia, skull, teeth etc in Hindi, Russian, or Chinese that is a crucial link in our understanding the topic, but unless someone is actively researching in both languages and sharing their findings we'll be running into parallel brick walls.

These past years I've seldom gone more than 3 waking hours without thinking about this topic, and I've taken to spending considerable time paying attention to my body to see where the issues are through awareness. I am getting better daily, subtly, in form and function. My health is improving rather than declining with age. At the current moment, I believe the best thing to do is again widen the net of the community and help facilitate discussion, bringing more eyes on the topic and highlighting whatever the community finds most interesting. I've also stacked up a veritable library saved articles, bookmarks, books, videos etc that I think I will begin to share as a way of sparking ideas in the minds of others.

I think I will make a video about your question. Thank you Apollo!

Thanks for your thoughtful response! I remember reading about google changing its algorithm to prioritize so-called trusted sources of health information, for example dropping the wikipedia page below a summary from the mayo clinic, even if the wikipedia page gets more traffic. However, I hadn't considered the effect this would have on the conversation about how poor craniofacial development impacts wellbeing and how it can be treated. You're right that this "optimization" of search results inherently prioritizes conventional wisdom. There also seems to be the phenomenon common on blogs and forums that people post a lot before and during their treatment, while they have observations and questions, but then they ghost out and never update their final results. I think this happens because the changes are subtle and maybe they get enough improvement to move on with their lives but not enough to satisfy online sceptics, or they are disheartened and loose interest when their efforts don't work out as they hoped. Old resources like claimingpower and breakthematrix come to mind. Thank you for working to keep this dialogue going!

I think the reason the online mewing community has stalled is mostly because we've just figured it out. It's not too complex. Release any tongue ties, perhaps expand the palate if needed, and it essentially happens without much conscious attention. It was incredible and amazing while it was being figured out for the first time on the internet, but I think everyone who was going to hear about something like this, who was going to try to do it for themselves, has. The theory of orthotropics is fascinating, but practical DIY application in adults is fairly straightforward. Most new posts here are extremely basic questions because the veterans don't have too much to say to each other anymore (unless there's another, better forum or sub-forum I've missed). We've proved that it's all real.

Mike Mew losing his license to practice medicine might have contributed.

Mike's still got his license, it was John (his father) who cannot practice. Although Mike is still under pressure from a UK dental board

I think you are pretty accurate in your assessment, but I am taking the topic in another direction and think that adults correction will require a method which opens up all the sutures and regions of the skull simultaneously (And continuously). Updates coming soon, I've been dripping them out but I am wary of leading to confusion if I continue saying bits and pieces of the entire theory.
