I've just been able to raise the posterior third now and ever since I've been able to, I have noticed it moves my uvula upwards too, irritating it and causing pain. Will this pain eventually go away, and how to manage it in the mean time?
I experienced this early on. It got easier day-by-day, and went away after about a week. It may be that the tissue in the back of your throat is simply unused to contact of any sort, and therefore sensitive. That's just a guess though.
Do you feel like you are raising your hyoid as well when you engage your posterior third?
Are you applying a lot of pressure with your tongue? - (you shouldn't, it should rest on the palate through suction)

Yeah, my hyoid is raised too.
I would say that if it's just discomfort and not deep actual pain, give it a few days and see whether it resolves. As I already said, remember to keep the tongue raised primarily using suction and not an excessively strong pushing force. You may also try drinking tea or milk with honey, or simply swallowing a spoonful of honey to alleviate your throat a bit.
