I've been expanding the upper palate in 3 months soon. The back of my palate has been expanding more than the front. I use a expander from braceshop, the blue plate expander with one screw. Is this normal, and what can I do to expand the front more? I try to mew all the time.
I'm not sure if you are asking how you can achieve more lateral separation between the front teeth or if you are asking how you can move the front teeth forward. Are you unhappy with the cosmetic results? I haven't started yet, but I want more expansion around the bicuspids and molars to avoid opening a gap between the front teeth. Have you had any tipping of the molars? If you have been expanding for three months, at what rate have you been turning the screw and how many milimeters have you separated the appliance?
I posted this before-and-after picture from Dr. Mew's video about adult palate expansion in another thread ( /community/community/main-forum/expanding-palate-effect-on-cheekbones/# ). In that thread, @madeira09 and @allixa talk about how mewing or expanding might promote a more U-shaped maxillary arch. You can see in the pictures of the dentition that the back teeth appear to have separated more than the front teeth. To me, her maxillary arch looks more U-shaped in the after image than the before. Is this similar to your results?
