hi guys. I’m. New to Mewing and wanted to ask about lower jaw expansion. I have a REALLY narrow jaw , to the point where the shape of my face is kind of like a pizza . Is it possible to use chewing and function to get the jaw to widen???
Hello,
I had the same question. Mewing correctly, with the tongue up on the roof of the mouth will help expand the upper part. What to do for the lower jaw? I am using a myobrace , it is a jaw expansion device that widens the upper and the lower jaw. Check it.
The tongue is connected to the mandible (your chin, see attached picture) and as you push your tongue into the roof of the mouth it will also widen in your lower jaw and push the mandible down and forward at the joint where its connected to your skull, your chin will go up and forward over time as well.
Mewing pushes the maxilla forwards and up, the mandible forwards and down, the chin forwards and up.
Chewing should help align the mandible with the maxilla through the teeth. Its a interconnected system and both should widen and move forward over time by themselves if you are mewing and chewing correctly throughout the day and night. You should do open mouth chewing with mastic gum WITHOUT breathing through the mouth. Learning the Mona Lisa swallow is great as well. The miobrace is also a good idea if you can get one.
