According to this study

There is a connection between mastication and facial structure. We all are aware of this. The monkeys that had their noses plugged in another experiment also regained their facial structure within 6 months.

I believe this is because their bodies adapt to their diet and fixes the facial structure, and clearly this can happen quite rapidly if the right circumstances are met.

If we assume we have to chew a hard diet to make changes in adults, what foods should we choose? Any ideas? I think looking at what people historically ate in different time periods could help.

I just think we're missing the mark when we neglect chewing to the extent we do. Falim gum won't have the same muscle activation as an actual hard diet will.

So any ideas for a tough, chewy diet? I'd be willing to incorporate a full hour or even two of chewing hard foods into my day if I had to, as I think it is paramount to actually getting results as an adult.

Disagree. I chewed hard gum for the best portion of a year, it gave me hyper-inflated masseter muscles that just ended up making my face look fatter. Thankfully, the muscles have atrophied a good bit. I believe that hard chewing could be beneficial for children, but for adults, it'll just throw off your facial proportions. Chewing here and there is good, but having a dedicated chewing routine with mastic gum - I would not recommend.

"Falim gum won't have the same muscle activation as an actual hard diet will." Why? Your body can't tell the difference.

@polholmes What age do you consider a child, is 14 too late to take on a hard chewing diet?

@thebeastpanda Never too late, but preferably as young as possible.

@cliffbars Agreed, but didn't you say the older you get, you'll just get muscle change and it won't improve your facial aesthetics much, so I wonder is 14 might be in the category, bc i have been hard chewing and not noticed any bone change, just a wider bigonial width provoked from the incease load on my masseters, basically just muscle change.

@thebeastpanda You can't expect bone to grow that quick. Just give it time bruv. Bone forms around tissue, bigger your masseters get the bigger your ramus will get, you can't expect insane changes though. Give it till you're like 16/17 and I guarantee you'll see positive changes.
