Why doesn’t facepulling work?

I don’t understand why not just use some facepulling orthodontic equipment to bring the maxilla forward with counter clockwise rotation. I’ve even read of people making their own facepulling equipment with elastic bands.

However the reason why everyone isn’t doing facepulling must be that it doesn’t work. My question is why?

Not necessarily. It requires a lot of commitment to be facepulling (ideally 24/7) and many people just do not have the ability or concentration to wear a facemask for so long.

If you facepull 24/7 for a period of a few months, you should definitely see changes to the maxilla (Wolff's law). Depending on where you are hooking your elastics onto in your mouth, these changes might be limited to the alveolar process.

1) Few are committed enough to wear the facepuller 12+ hours a day, or whatever time is required to achieve change.

2) Reversing CFD may not be as straightforward as pulling the maxilla, even if the end result translates to maxillary movement. There is the question of whether maxillary rotation even is a thing in itself, or a byproduct of a larger cranium-wide dynamic.

3) Pulling by the maxillary teeth may not result in much else than teeth tipping, and pulling the maxilla itself is hard to implement at home.

But isn’t  /community/community/profile/helmutstrebl/ proof that it is just about pressing forward the maxilla?

What I am saying is that 'maxilary rotation' may not be rotation at all, except only seemingly on the most superficial level, on the level of the soft tissue. The 'upswing' may be an illusion created by several separate factors coming together (alveolar, palatal, zygomatic & mandibular development), rather than actual rotation of the bone. Pressing against the maxilla does produce results, but whether or not these results consist of the maxilla actually rotating in relation to the skull is another question.

@progress When people use the FAGGA orthodontic equipment, doesn’t it cause forward growth of the maxilla without any counter clockwise rotation, resulting in an even longer face?

FAGGA seems to be capable of manipulating the alveolar bone (i.e. the lower third of the maxilla) in a way that may allow the mandible to shift forward. I don't think it does anything to the maxilla beyond this.
