Will Class 2 interarch elastics recess my maxilla?

I am 21 years old and I have a pretty recessed maxilla due to mouth breathing and orthodontic threatment with headgear when I was a kid.

Recently I got bracers to fix some crooked teeth but the dentists also said that Class 2 elastics would be good to fixing my overbite.

For those unaware, this is what class 2 elastic do https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0dRHVoUROuU

Mine are attached to the canines on the upper arch and the first molars on the lower arch.

I think those would benefit me since my upper teeth are crooked frontward and my mandible is set more backwards than my maxilla but I am worried if it would recess my maxilla even more or make them grow even more downward. If these things can happen, would mewing be able to counter the recession?

Yes most likely those will recess your maxilla, they did for me when I had them with my first orthodontic treatment. How much overjet do you have?

That's significant. Ask your orthodontist about alternative ways to move the mandible forward.
