Seek other consults.  I know one ortho said something like this and another said no.  There are vastly different opinions from orthos.  Be sure to go to an ortho that has a more forward chin...since it sounded in your post like you were concerned about bone loss/length of lower jaw.  Also, someone with a bit of an upswing in their jaw may be nice!!!  They utilize the tools more frequently (especially if they have 10+ years of experience)...that make patients look more like themselves.

Orthodontist report:
Retroclined upper incisors
Proclined lower incisors
3mm overjet and 3mm overbite

Orthodontist advised only solution is to remove lower wisdom teeth (i don't have upper ones) and jaw surgery to bring the lower jaw forward and orthodontic treatment. Are there any non-surgical methods of correction?

I can jut my jaw forward fine which also improves my breathing (airway is constricted as per x-ray) but my upper teeth are preventing me from moving my jaw forward and closing my mouth.

I'm not a mouth breather and never have been. Any help would be appreciated.

side

I'm not a medical expert and whatever opinion I'm giving you comes purely from self experience and online searching, so don't take anything for granted. It's worth what it's worth. Just tryna help.

How would you rate your body posture?

Can you lengthen your neck?

What feels more comfortable for you? Good cervical posture with a mandible jut or the way you normally bite?

When you try to lengthen the neck, how does your overall skull feel? Does it feel constricted? What about the TMJ?

You mentioned the overjet. How far can you jut your mandible forward before it becomes painful?

Do you have a convex skull shape? After chewing gum for a few minutes, what do you feel has worked more? Masseters or around the temporalis?

How long have you been mewing?

Can you hold a properly aligned chin tuck? How does that feel on your mandible, tmj?

Im no expert like I said but I was pretty much where you are at right now plus a crossbite. Yes they are different cases and a crossbite usually indicates some other problems but there's also similarities.

I had a seemingly normal bite with my mandible being pushed back, giving me a lot of tmj issues.

The plan was to extract wisdom and possibly more in the mandible and up top and some sort of surgery aswell and whatever.

I didn't go for it.

Fast forward a few months mewing and fixing my body posture, my mandible has gotten out of my airways and moved down and forward without any extractions or type of surgery. What was a 'constricted normal bite due to mandible crowding' was actually a hidden class 3 underbite.

It was never diagnosed to me I had a class 3. It was hiding behind my slouched body posture due to a big overjet.

Class 1 deep bites can be class 3s hidding. Mike mew says it in some video and it actually is what was happening to me. Slouching recracts your mandible and if you mouth breath even worse.

Have you been mewing?

My gonial angle right now is sick, never thought I'd get this sort of look having in mind I always had a big bulge under my chin. I breathe better. I stand up taller and am a lot more confident. I'm more focused. This stuff, if you embrace it and put effort into it, is actually sick. Warn you there's obviously ups and downs but even tho I was unsure of the effectiveness of mewing before I can say I believe in it now. It just takes a long time.

The only bad thing mewing and posture gave me was showing me the true nature of my problem, the underbite. My face has changed for the worse in some spots and for the better in others. I don't really mind

Worth it tho. I don't regret waiting around like I did.  I will fix the root problem in the future instead of camouflaging it.

As for the advice, I definetely would go with that orthodontist.

Visit around people that focus on airway and health approach to orthodontics.

While searching for a viable solution just focus on your body and oral posture. It will bring you a type of awareness of your body that's much needed these days.

I'd say you mandible is constricted and wants to come forward. Your occlusal plane is steep and your maxilla is underdeveloped and is trapping the mandible.

You need to make space up on the palate so the mandible can come forward.

I'd avoid extractions. In some cases they re beneficial but I don't think extracting more teeth is going to fix anything on your case. Your mandible is already retracted, extracting will do nothing but retract it again with the years if you lack proper function, which you probably do. will work until it doesn't again

If you re American, consider yourself lucky as there's a lot of options out there.

Bimax surgery is also a viable option even tho I don't like the majority of results I see, at least aesthetically. Haven't searched much on it tho. Maybe some1 else will inform you better on this

100% of people notice a massive airway volume increase if they jut their jaw forward, but that doesnt mean it is necessary to breath or advantageous, or that you should surgically move your entire face forward. Try shifting your focus from your face to a more important, serious problem facing the world such as children who do not have clean water or food to eat. It appears like your face is not the problem.  It is your mind that is fixated on your face that suggests that you are self-centered.

You don't know me. You don't know what I do or what I do not do.

You go against the grain on every thread I see. I bet youre living a very fulfilling life acting the way you are.

You lurk these forums all day. I'm pretty sure you aren't doing anything to help poverty by being here telling people they re dumb and self centered. And if you are and if that's your purpose, good. The world needs more people willing to help others. I'd just shift gears and focus less on being here doing what you re doing , it's not helping you or anyone else.

If i was @admin I'd just ban you, having in mind you don't do anything but bash every else's thoughts and do absolutely nothing that contributes to the purpose of these forums.

If you don't like what you see here just leave.

A man that doesn't value himself doesn't value much else. It's not being self centered, it's just taking care of yourself so youre strong enough to take care of others that need help.
