Aesthetic impact of masseter hypertrophy in men

I've been trying to obtain some masseter hypertrophy lately but so far I haven't seen any results. It's understandable since I use regular gum as of now and didn't train very long. I'm getting ready to transition to full-blown mastic experience but I have a few questions before I begin to make sure I will not accomplish the exact opposite of what I'm trying to do.

So my motivations to obtain masseter hypertrophy are mostly aesthetic although there are some practical reasons too. I'm dissatisfied with how narrow my jaw is and wanted to make it a little bit wider / more "masculine" / handsome. My gonial angle is quite high at this moment and ramuses are short. Despite having narrow jaw it's quite angular at this moment, probably because of low body fat level. Moreover I have a pretty strong chin.

I thought that getting some masseter hypertrophy might help my case but now I have some second thoughts and worries about it. Internet is full of many different and contradictory opinions about the subject which are often posted on dubious forums. Figured out this might be a good place to search for some more definite answer.

We all have seen examples of people who achieved kinda bloated "chipmunk" look from masseter hypertrophy but it can be argued that these people were mostly bruxist who didn't do it on purpose. We can also say that most of people who achieved bad aesthetic effect from that are those who already had relatively low gonial angle and wide jaw which resulted in their faces becoming rounder. There are anecdotal (but not very credible) reports that masseter hypertrophy might work much better for those who had high gonial angle / shorter ramuses to begin with as insertion points for muscles are higher. All of this is based on certain anecdotes which are cherry picked by me with some confirmation bias so it might not be totally true. There are many contradicting opinions as well.

What are your opinions? I would love my jaw to become a little bit wider but fear that it might result in loss of angularity and I don't know what's the cost / benefit ratio from aesthetic perspective. Also I suppose that hypertrophying this muscle will not give an illusion of lower gonial angle - am I right? Wouldn't wider jaw with the same high gonial angle look worse and less balanced than how it is right now? In other words - is it a good idea to attempt obtaining masseter hypertrophy for the reasons I listed in this post or will it do more harm than good?

I'm willing to send my pic over PM so you can evaluate my specific situation. I don't feel comfortable posting it publicly yet but I can send it for evaluation. Unfortunately I have trouble imagining how would hypertrophied masseter muscle look like on my face. Thank you for your help in advance!

I got chipmunk look without having bruxism. I just have responsive muscles and took LGD4033. It was not aesthetic. I was more attractive with a narrower but straight jaw BONE. Masseters are muscles not bone, so they look bulky and not like natural Tom Cruise jawline.

30 yo, need to expand palate, move maxilla upward and forward, reduce gonial angle.

@Le_Fort_or_Bust

Do you think some moderate masseter hypertrophy would look better than without? Like training it to a degree when your jaw is a little bit wider but not too bulky? I was thinking about experimenting a little bit and realizing when I have to stop.

Also - are you willing to check my photo by PM and evaluate whether I could benefit from some hypertrophy?

Austin Dunham looked more aesthetic with a developed masseter. Probably because he has a naturally small mandible and high gonial angle

not chew more than necessary with care, and focus on correct swallowing, and mewing,  @lefort_bust  probably not swallowing right or your muscles are all being worn wrong on your face.

my jaw is still asymmetrical but my face looks much stronger after I started, training and chewing only hard foods and my cheeks are getting hollow, I never chewed  falim gum , only food

@EddieMoney

That would probably fit my self-description pretty well and gives me some hope. Would you be willing to take a look at my photo (over PM) to see if my self-description is correct? I know it's very basic stuff but I was wrong about many similar things in the past and would really like to hear a second opinion.

That would also mean that "theory" I created from certain internet anecdotes might actually be true. By theory I mean that it's mostly people with already narrow jaws and high gonial angle seem to benefit from masseter hypertrophy while those with more squareish jawlines will look worse after chewing. I feared it might be just my confirmation bias. When you look at botox patients who wanted to get rid of masseter hypertrophy most of them indeed looked ridiculous but many were already pretty square jawed naturally. On the other hand many Asian patients looked better on before photos but started looking more like teenagers on after images. I think it might worth a try.

As for Austin Dunham I recognize this guy. I actually didn't know he had naturally narrow mandible and high gonial angle. Might use him as sort of inspiration in my masseter hypertrophy training. Do you have any opinion on his other exercises? They don't seem to train masseter as such, at least don't feel so. Is this training of surrounding muscles also appropriate for my goals?

Sorry for such a long answer.

So would someone with a narrow jawline front profile and high gonial angle benefit most from masseter hypertrophy? I fit this category.

anyone with a trigular shaped face and a narrow palate would benefit. it is said that big masseter csa is correlated with wide palate and sqaure jaw, which are both masculine. I started grinding hard with mastica gum hopefully i can see change soon.

Also, Dr Mike said in one of his videos that training the masseters would also improve inter ocular distance, which would also make you more attractive.

Gotta say I'm not feeling that little theory? Does he have any proof of it?

I think that as long as you don't go too far, it's aesthetic and masculine to have quite bulk masseters. My left one definitely adds width to my jaw and doesn't ruin my jawline at all. The right one is much less developed (favoring one side to chew) and is the cause of a lot of facial asymmetry in me. So I'm working on developing that one.

To be honest I think the need for Falim or Mastic gum is a little overblown. You have to be careful with the high resistance training because you can really end up with TMD symptoms. I stopped using the mastic and now just use regular gum (PUR brand). I find that if I chew 5 or 6 at once, it gives me a nice bit of resistance without feeling like it's going to cause jaw problems.  I definitely didn't get a large left masseter from chewing Mastic gum, so I don't feel I should need it to train the right one to match.
