Hey everyone. I've been practicing mewing for a few days. I made an account here just to ask a question since I haven't been able to find a proper answer to it.
I have the same issue as many, where if I press my tongue to my soft palate (all the way in my case, I can sort of breathe if I cup it a little), I either can't breathe at all or I make a disgusting snoring noise.
Would it be okay to cup it and inhale, then shut it, then cup it again to exhale, and repeat? I can't really go around snoring and hurting my throat, so that's what I have been doing but I fear it ruining my progress.
I'm a 21 year old female.
Have you explored other ways to fit your tongue onto the roof of the mouth? Are you currently using the swallow method to keep the posterior-third of your tongue up? If you are you might be over doing it.
Thanks so much for your reply!
Yes actually, to your question about the swallow method. I have to part it a little bit afterwards to be able to breathe.
Is there any way to know if I'm over doing it? I'm wondering if I am.
And what other ways are there to fit my tongue to the roof of the mouth?
Are you able to titrate down the force of your posterior 1/3 against your soft palate, so you still feel the tongue making contact, but are able to breathe relatively freely? That's the sweet spot, which can take time to get accustomed to.
By that I meant to adjust your tongue to fit more comfortably or correctly. But the technique I was gonna recommend you was to swallow the tongue and while you're doing that you should push the back 1/3 of tongue up. Mimic the tongue movement of when you're pronouncing "ing", that'll do it.
