Seems like I would have heard about it before if it really was effective. However, this article got me to wondering if it's worth trying.

Modern research has identified the physiological actions by which traditional bone-knitting herbs work to rebuild bone tissues. Over time a large body of contemporary research has focused on one particular herb that is particularly effective at restoring bone loss arising from periodontal disease. The herb, Drynaria fortunei, is referred to in China as GuSuiBu, literally meaning “mend broken bones.”
Early scientific research on Drynaria focused on its ability to rebuild healthy bone to reverse the effects of osteoporosis. Bone building, called remodeling, requires maintaining a careful balancing act between the destruction of weak, old bone (resorption) and the manufacturing of new, healthy bone (regeneration). When old bone is broken down at a faster rate than new bone is created, the result is osteoporosis. (8,12,13)
Drynaria has been shown to improve bone rebuilding in several examples of excessive bone loss.
- Inhibiting osteoclast function: Osteoclasts are specialized cells that break down old bone to provide a space for healthy new bone. This is a normal, healthy process unless it outpaces the body’s ability to create new bone tissue. Drynaria has been shown to support healthy osteoclast function without entirely halting it, as bisphosphonate drugs do. (3,15,17,18,20,21,22,30,33)
- Stimulating osteoblast function: Osteoblasts are specialized cells within bones that deposit new, healthy bone in the spaces created by osteoclasts. When osteoblasts can’t keep up with the pace of bone resorption, loss of bone tissue accelerates, resulting in osteoporosis. Drynaria has been shown in multiple studies to stimulate osteoblasts to produce more healthy bone tissue. (7,12,18,22,25,26,28,30,32,34,36,39)
- Osteogenesis [mesenchymal cells]: Osteogenesis is the process by which mesenchymal cells in bone marrow differentiate to become new osteoblast cells capable of producing new bone tissue. Not only is it necessary to stimulate osteoblasts to produce bone, but to also stimulate bone marrow to produce new osteoblast cells to replace those lost to disease or apoptosis, the process of natural cell death. Several studies have shown that Drynaria stimulates osteogenesis to provide bones with an adequate supply of new osteoblasts. (1,2,4,5)
Loss of Ovaries: Accelerated bone loss in recently menopausal women is associated with the loss of ovarian function. Extracts of Drynaria have been shown to provide an anti-osteoporotic effects in female mammals following the loss of ovaries. (1,40)
I haven't heard of this. Any reviews? I know collagen is super popular, supposed to help against wrinkles and many Amazon reviews show that it grows new baby hair! Cool. I am always interested in learning more on things, but do tend to steer more mainstream on alternatives. That's because I always get the freaky-rare side effects.
I have used Drynaria with good results. I have had periodontitis bad enough for my teeth to be mobile, at its worst. Using drynaria made a noticeable difference in stability of my teeth in just a week or so, and the mobility reappeared a week or two after discontinuing. Worth. It. By far the most effective of any of the many supplements I took for that condition, including collagen.
It is NOT tasty. The easiest way to take it is in this capsule. If you have a hard time taking nasty-tasting things on the regular, this is what you want. https://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Remedies-BoneDense-Drynaria-500mg-caps/dp/B0721VZZKG However it's pretty expensive. The cheapest way to take it is to buy the whole roots and tincture them yourself. You could easily make several years supply for what one bottle of capsules would cost.
Sounds interesting, I'd want to use it if for second molar resorption from poorly growing wisdom teeth (structural damage to the tooth) if that helped, though I imagine it's just for resorption from the jaw bone.

I haven't seen a pure source of it on Amazon so haven't read any honest reviews of it yet. It's often hard to find honest reviews about this kind of stuff because every blog or site that reviews supplements seem to be pushing affiliate links. I take collagen and it's indeed good for the hair, skin and nails.

Thanks. Did you get that link right? It's saying "page not found."
@AlphaMinus Same for me when I tried, just delete the period from the end of the link.
Whoops, sorry. Habitual punctuation. :( I'll edit it now, and here it is again. https://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Remedies-BoneDense-Drynaria-500mg-caps/dp/B0721VZZKG

Quite pricey! I wonder what the optimum dosage is though. I was also looking at this formula (not drynaria but also interesting herbs) for bone health as well, might try it given the reviews:

To be honest, it's worth the price. Like I said, I've taken a LOT of herbs and supplements for bone building and this one has the clearest results. If you have serious bone issues and can afford only one supplement, I would make it this one.
I'll probably get some. Just wish the product had more reviews on Amazon, I usually like to browse through a good 100 or so of them before buying a supplement just to get an overview of the quality.
Let us know what you think after trying it!
After much back and forth in my mind, I just purchased some drynaria from Amazon. Wasn't the one linked to above since that was out of stock (and very expensive), so I'm going to try this tincture instead. Time will tell.
