As my face has improved, I can feel and see that my torus palatinus has decreased!

found out about torus palatinus from this excellent article (which i found on an old post in this forum!)  https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/dentistry/is-it-mental-or-is-it-dental/

Thanks Silver! I also have a rather prominent torus palatinus, so it is encouraging to hear that yours has reduced! @allixa mentioned the possibility that the torus palatinus might represent a bony fusing of the midpalatal suture which could prevent expansion (  /community/community/main-forum/you-can-easily-shave-down-a-palate-expander-to-refit-it-to-your-mouth/#post-657 ), so hopefully the changes you are seeing suggest that adult palate expansion will be possible for those of us with a torus palatinus.

I noticed that Weston Price article when I was researching nutrition. It is a pretty good review of a lot of the broader health implications of craniofacial dystrophy.

Do you think nutrition has a big part in how malleable the bone is and how much it can grow?

Do I? Most definitely! For starters, look into Vitamin K2's effect on bone. I'm not taking it myself nor eating a very healthy diet but I do avoid most processed foods. They don't make up a significant part of my diet at all. I enjoy fruits and especially vegetables.

@Silver: That's great news about the torus palatinus. Have you been able to get expansion or do you think it just flattened out from mewing? Mine might have flattened out a bit from mewing but it hasn't gone away yet. Sometimes I can see the impression it leaves on my tongue after mewing all day.

I know people have said that as you expand the palate drops down so it would be interesting to see what the t.p. does in that situation.

@sinned: Nutrition definitely plays a big part in this process. I've read stories of people who don't even know about mewing who have gotten good facial changes just from getting into a better diet. But it's just one part of the puzzle. You can definitely make changes without stressing over diet too much, but it's another thing that is worth optimizing if you want the best changes possible.

I actually ran some experiments back when I had braces on years ago, and whenever I ate a clean diet full of good foods, the adjustments that the orthodontist would make only took about a week to happen and solidify, and they would always comment on how fast things were going, but when I experimented with eating lots of junk food, the changes would take a month or longer to happen, and they would ask me if I had been slacking off somehow.

I think the main reason that nutrition helps is that it lets your body run at 100% at all times, which just makes things happen more quickly and more easily. And when I say nutrition I don't mean eating just vegetables and water all day, I still eat really good really rich foods, I just make sure to pick ones that I know are good for me.

I definitely have been getting expansion, especially transverse expansion. It definitely hadn't gone away but feels less prominent, like the contour of it is less convex.

Yes I think mine feels less convex as well. But I haven't been able to get any expansion yet, and I have been mewing for a very long time. I used to think that perhaps the torus was holding me back because I read something about that in a book once, but it might just be that my palate is too small for my tongue to make changes through mewing.

I'll know for sure once my expander comes in but for now your story makes me think that the book could have been wrong which is good news for me.

To be honest, it feels like the TP has moved to the side a little, like it's sticking to one side of the suture as I expand
