i thought new bone forms after a chin wing or a zygomatic osteotomy but now I m reading that the bones tends to be resorped when used hip bone grafts? Can someone elaborate on this and explain it in layman terms
thank you
It depends what you are referring to. Bone grafting is used to close gaps made in the surgery, but often in facial surgery it's not needed because the bones are only moved small amount while still in contact. In this case the natural bone healing process closes the gaps. That being said any surgery that goes beyond the limitations of the soft tissues and muscles will experience some resorption whether done with bone grafting or without.
