Hello,I am looking for some help to correct my underbite for over a few years now which I inherited it from my grandmother.I'm still going to the dentist twice a year and the only option to correct my underbite is having a surgery. It sounds super scary and I still don't know if I can afford that. But I just wanted to know if mewing would help to correct an underbite.
thank you.
Good oral posture is not going to correct a skeletal abnormality. Especially an underbite in an adult. Same for facepulling or any other DIY. These cases need medical intervention to be solved.
You should practice it for all the other benefits but dont fool urself thinking itll fix it regardless of what you hear here.
Now depending on the severity of your case there might be a surgery free way to fix it. There is a few cases ive seen.
How bad is your overjet?
If its a small underbite a Homeoblock, DNA, MSE will treat it.
Id do some research first if i was you just so you have a general idea of what you need and want when youre looking for any orthodontist. Different doctors Will give you different suggestions and you should be able to chose the best One.
Ask yourself a few questions and try to understand whats going on with your skull.
Go find orthodontists that believe in forwardontics orthopedic treatments and ask for opinions.
Surgery may sound scary but if its done by a good doctor the result will be good.
Best of luck
Thanks for the guide.I really appreciate that.
I was actually wearing a Homeoblock when I was 12 and my teeth improved a little but overtime my gums were swelling and my doctor thought that it wasn't a good idea to continue it.So,I'm still going in and out to the dentist but when can I get my surgery?I am 17 now and the doctor told me that I have to wait for a while for surgery until I stop growing.I don't think that I'm still growing and my height has been the same since I was 14.She also told me that wearing braces for now wouldn't help either because my lower jaw would still grow forward .So,all I can do now is wait for the next appointment and look for other alternatives.
I just read my response again and i just wanna say that i dont want you to be discouraged.
I thought you were older thn that.
Honestly at 17 you should still have a go at orthopedic treatment before considering surgery. Its late but you are still growing.
Is your underbite bad?
If youre American and have the possibility to afford it, id look into the DNA appliance. Sadly its way too expensive but the thing works.
