This appliance seems to be functionally identical to the AGGA, and is used by multiple dentists/practitioners that we have spoken to. We are still gathering more information from those professionals using this device, and get their opinions about what it achieves.

Functionally identical (to our eyes), the CDA appliance claims only to move the premaxilla forward.  This is consistent with all X-Rays/Scans of CDA/FAGGA treatment.

Though it seems to be functionally identical, the FAGGA claims far more - growth across the entire nasomaxillary complex, forward maxillary displacement, maxillary tuberosity growth etc.

The good news is that these two appliances CAN successfully treat Class III bites, as well as many types of sleep apnea, and give more space in the mouth for tongue posture.

Thoughts?

Looks super uncomfortable in the back.  Those long metal pieces would poke right into the cheek.

Also called the PMA/Pre-Maxillary Advancer. As the name suggests - it advances the premaxilla

1. It's incredible that dentists send people to jaw surgery when these devices are well known, and have been around for decades. I'm happy about this information

2. What is up with LVI's claims of entire nasomaxillary complex remodeling? We'll do more digging

Wondering, where's the research on these? Someone somewhere must have published by now...

Looks like it's pretty much accepted that it causes growth of the alveolar bone at the premaxillary suture (but also tips the teeth). It wasn't used much because this left gaps between the teeth, and now with the FAGGA protocol they're combining this with Controlled Arch braces systems so that the back teeth can be pulled forward to close the gaps.

You're not seeing any new research because it's not a new invention - LVI is just trying to rebrand it and pretend it is a new device that Galella invented.

Besides those extra long wires in the back, it looks pretty awesome.  The reason is because it looks like it does expansion as well.  If you can see the arms that attach the the nance button... those get extended thereby widening in the anterior portion.  Looks like a decent tool for prepping for implants.

I'd go with a rectangular wire to keep those front teeth from bucking out, though.  It's seeming to lift them.  It if does, they can be brought back.  Usually bucking teeth sometimes is required to get thing forward... as a bit of an unintended side-effect.

The nance button here is smaller than the CDA one... it looks a bit weak, IMO.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMeYJOGo0C0

Does it also use bite plates?

To avoid teeth hitting eachother it might be used, but LVI seems to be the only institute using bite plates to induce lower jaw remodeling
