I got this today from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Teething-Necklace-Teardrop-Dioxin/dp/B00NOM6DFW
Why? Well gum is hard because both mastic and fallim are awesome... but they are choking hazards for me. Don’t know if it’s my muscles or jaw, but I had near inhales and it happens with food too - so I stopped until someone else mentioned those.
For the first time in a long time, my jaw is sore and “buzzy” (you know like after you workout). What’s cool is this design has a hole, so I pull on it while chewing for a gentle face pull like how our ancestors chewed and ate.
The posts on competitive eaters gave me a lot of hope seeing how jaws reform. I’ll let you all know with progress since things have not halted but the midface is stagnant. Tongue is working on far Back palette now though!
Anyway, I think if this lasts even a month or two it’s way worth it :)
yo, how far can you bite down on it? one of the downsides I would think of such a tool is that the range of motion would be less than gum. i'm not sure whether or not that is a substantial issue though.
also i'd say keep in mind that you can't really work out your tongue with such a thing which is important because of course you want to keep your tongue/jaw strength in harmony. if jaw > tongue you can clench too hard and if jaw < tongue you push your teeth apart. I noticed the former when I started chewing gum and had to incorporate mew' tongue bolus exercises to help rebalance.
I wonder what causes your unintended inhaling? when you're chewing gum i'm sure you are nose breathing but i'd suggest you actively try to ensure the gum doesn't go towards the center of your mouth. if you have a larger ball of gum you can have some of it hanging around your cheek area to act as a sort of anchor lol
@yay I just bought yours for the pulling/tearing! I've been eating tough beef jerky lately and have felt my jaw move forward in a really wonderful way - but I try to be as vegetarian as possible.
@krollic - I also cut this one up, which gives me a lot of options: https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Necklace-Teething-Children-Chewelry/dp/B077XJ7JGZ/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1525795511&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=phoenix%2Bchew%2Bsensory&th=1
It looks kind of flimsy. I think it would break or wouldn't be able to withstand force too long.
Why not just go with reverse pull headgear? Has anyone tried those appliance thingies?

For chewing, it doesn’t go as far down as gum for sure, but it does get my jaw sore. I think this is good for those who struggle like me - with choking, I developed it since I was a teenager and I think it’s my narrow palette and set back face. The tongue is too squished up....

Hi! Oh awesome. Yes as a vegan who can’t ewt a lot of nuts (oxlates since I get kidney stones) I thinks a major downside is my lack of chewing and why I regressed more

Oh it’s sturdy as heck for me! Reverse pull headgear purse forcebon the chin and is not yet great - there’s is a bow version which has not rolled out yet that is promising... but it’s $7 so it’s not bad for me
What is your palate width at this point?
When I can go back to the dentist I’ll find out - they measured me months ago
