Which ANGLE should you face pull? What's the consensus behind this?

I notice all reverse headgear things pull a bit downwards. The graphics show that this slides the maxilla forward and the mandible is supposed to eventually catch up. I have also seen it being said that it's supposed to be upwards to "move it up," but is there any real difference?

Why do orthodontists pull down with the ones they put on kids? If the maxilla being recessed really just is codeword for being too far down as in some cases, why pull it farther down?

Or is there no difference? I used to pull up, but I wonder if this makes the maxilla fall back in the face because pulling at 60-120 degrees would make me think that the maxilla would go forward partially but also backwards. Just picture a tall object being pulled by the bottom part of it and being pulled 120 degrees or up and forward like with face pulling. What happens? The top part falls back and the bottom comes forward. I don't know if this makes sense with bones, but it does with physics and quick movements. Maybe pulling down doesn't have this same effect?

So I've been thinking I should just continue pulling straight or maybe slightly downward. Ideas?

Do you think pulling in a Mackenzie chin tuck kind of helps balance things out? I've been face pulling like this for a couple weeks. You seem to have a mind for this sort of thing, can you please explain how pulling in a Mackenzie chin tuck effects pulling? When pulling from the back at a 60 degree angle, forces applied up and out.

Seems 60 degrees is the consensus re: angle

Remember this pain... and let it activate you.

I don't do chin tucks. When I pull I just lean my head back somewhat to balance the force of pulling and reduce any neck pain. I also do it sometimes when lying down.

If it's 60 degrees then I still don't see why those reverse pull headgear devices are low-set to about 100 degrees or so on kids. Wouldn't professionals of all people know the "right" angle this should work? You'd think they would pull more upwards on the kids with dental issues/maxillary issues too.

I'm no expert at this stuff, so I just do whatever I can assume would work.
