No, given how small the area is and how tight everything is it's not possible. People use all kids of tricks to estimate their width but when it comes to consistently measuring small increased it's not possible. Only a properly made impression or an xray can do that.

What's the best way to estimate then?
The most precise way to measure at home is with a caliper as demonstrated by Dr. Mike Mew here:
If you're just looking for a general approximation you could try a ruler or tailors tape, and some people bite down onto cardstock or something else to take a very rough impression. Alternatively, if you just want to know if your intermolar width exceeds a certain value, you can measure an object like a dental cotton roll (which tend to be about 38mm), and then see if you are able to freely fit it between your first molars.

Good suggestions. I thought the caliper method was only useful for dental impressions. I'd imagine sticking a caliper up your mouth might be a little difficult haha
