UPDATE!!!  LOOK AT MY NEWER POSTS BELOW!  Specifically... /community/community/main-forum/facemasks/#post-13044 for the new facemask on the block.  Don't miss this!

Reverse pull is common.  Thing is it throws out of class 1 to class 2.  (Can add a Herbst onto this protocol, too, to prevent this... according to Dr. Perkin's in Texas.)  Good for class 3 >  class 1, though.  As an aside, check out the serious facial forward growth of https://dentalsleeppractice.com/physicians-perspective/treating-sleep-disorders-with-oral-appliances/   They're young, of course.

Eureka!  Dr. McNamara (genious!  I even spoke with him on the phone before!).... has an alternate design...

https://www.facebook.com/163793753775692/videos/554532211671771/

See starting at 1:40 of Dr. Mahony's explanation.  He's genious.

You're welcome.  Oh... and of course, you need to do this at the right age or somehow disarticulate your maxilla jaw.  I did see hooks for reverse pull Facemask at this site: http://truthbutter.com/ape-diary-5-my-consult-with-dr-brad-lockhart/   Dr. Lockhart is awesome.  Overall, truthbutter had some mixed results... I think that if she'd not tried to reinsert teeth that her airway would have done better.  I personally don't like a thick acrylic between teeth... would ask for a thinner version of DNA if I were to do it.  Luckily, I had orthodontics as a kid.  :-)

So, yeah... if I were an adult and wanted my maxilla forward... I'd try for McNamara facemask with DNA appliance with hooks.  I'd only expand a bit side-to-side for DNA (don't do much, as it looks like at least for the Meridian appliance which is supposed to be similar to DNA that it pulled teeth from bone in this case).  I would ask for a very think acrylic between the teeth and focus more on forward movement.  For side-to-side I'm cool with Damon braces, Invisalign or regular braces since I think that having teeth touch is important.  These can do a little bit.  If I needed much more, I'd look at DOME from Stanford Sleep Centre (depending) or other things.   Questions on DOME are what about the mandible?  Truth is, most people only SEE top teeth.  IMO having a slightly larger maxilla arch is an attractive looks.  Each orthodontists has their own preference on upper molar angling it seems.

PERSONALLY!!!  IF I needed to bring my mandible forward to match... it depends on the amount... but if I wanted to be class 1 dentition and the maxilla came foward to throw it out of class 1...  to class 2.  I'd be very curious about trying to eat in a class 1 dentition.  Chewing is HUGE on teeth development/movement.  I'd also maybe try some other things (NOT MEWING AS DESCRIBED ON THIS SITE!) like... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0ZRkXIBIpw   Thing is... our chins come forward on their own anyway as we age.  I'm not worried about class 1 dentition as a woman.  Look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItxQIro7Y0o&t=591s (start around mark 6:00 to the end).  Totally worth the watch.  Thing is, Dr. Mahony like all orthodontists will put into class 1 dentitition.  Unless there's a restricted airway or sleep issues from studies, it looks like class 2 dentition isn't really that bad for females.  These top models had class 2 dentition... meaning that they never had orthodontics.  Note.. not saying class 2 is awesome.  They just had forward maxillas.

Do you or does anyone else know where I can find a facemask without a chin cup? The chin cup ones are very cheap to buy on websites like Alibaba / Aliexpress. But I am looking for a low priced one without the chin cup!

I have no idea.  I think it's wise to go to an orthodontist and cannot recommened doing this on your own.

Search for Grummon's face mask, iirc it's about 100 bucks.

Remember this pain... and let it activate you.

Whoa!!!  This may be even better............   Ready?!?!??!?  3.... 2.... 1....

http://forwardontics.com/

What the heck is this?  Biggest bow and arrow contraption I've seen.  Does this mean that you're not getting your cheeks pushed back?!  It looks compelling.  Who's going to try it for $250?

Gallery just shows kids... but why couldn't this be done with an upper and lower jaw disarticulating system like truthbutter used?  We need to get her on here.

*Sarcasm* Now you, too, can see what life was like as a parasaurolophus!

http://dinosaurpictures.org/Parasaurolophus-pictures

Their gallery is just similar cases... not with "the bow".  It is VERY early... and they want participants.  See bottom of http://forwardontics.com/bow.html on how to participate in the bow trial.   Wonder if your ortho would contact them and get one.

Definitely a good way to get sympathy... wearing that thing around.

Yeah i've seen this one recently. It looks great. They don't ship to the UK :(

These are very similar to just using a hockey helmet with bands attached to your expander / retainer. I would go for the Hockey helmet way but that means I can only do it for about 30 minutes a day because you have to hold the face guard out to pull.

I really wish there were some sellers on websites like Aliexpress making and selling them cheap :(

What do you think to this? I've just been looking online at different kinds of masks and helmets. I came across a 'Softball Fielder's Face Mask'. I've shown where the elastic bands or string would pull.

I just really need a mask that I can leave on for hours whilst doing things like being sat at on the laptop.

Football helmet?  Rubber bands?  I’m kind of digging on this!  The bow needs results... and the before/after photos are NOT wirh the bow.  I think it might just pull your neck forward.  Would never wear at at night.  How could you?   Seems it'd slip... or give slipped disk, maybe?

Yeah it is similar to plato's hockey helmet at  http://jawpain-tmjtreatment.com/ but he pulled the cage forward for about 30 minutes a day I think. Actually.. it's pretty much identical to what he did. He'd probably still get a pull if he didn't lift the face cage. Even if it's not the strongest pull, i just want something that I can wear throughout the day without having to pull on it myself!

To be abundantly clear!!!! I would not do this except under the care and treatment of a physician!  The pressure must be measured with a guage and be appropriate to patient conditions.  I would not do this without a CBCT to check condyles first as part of assessment.  I would want the CBCT read by someone qualified.  Additionally, the treatment done by someone qualified.  Progress checked and overseen by said qualified doctor.  Even then... sometimes doing facemasks can yank condyles right out!  This must be overseen by a doctor.  No joking or poking around! Same goes for all my posts... this one times 100x.  For adults... this scares the crap out of me... and I fully suspect that no doctor would do it... so it's even scarier!! If someone does agree... I would do this with someone Board Certified only... who uses CBCT.  I don't personally know anyone local who fits this bill... so I wouldn't do it personally & I cannot recommend it... nor would I anyway.

Wow - more info!!! I'm not for facemasking for the aesthetic reasons... look at  http://jawpain-tmjtreatment.com  The afters have tiny eyes.  I don't want tiny eyes.  Even it was brought forward unevenly as shown by one eye smaller in after.  Super bad idea.  For aesthetics you want a longer arch.  If you go too wide and shorter front to back then you can also have eye troubles.  Eyes need support.  I've been suspecting this for a while... now I know!

It's a balance... you still need airway space.

The problem is anymore.. orthos just widen and widen more in early treatment and the maxilla central incisors retrude.  You don't want to overwiden and you want to keep maxillary incisors forward still without losing their positioning (unless protrusive... which is crazy rare).  Some people look to a beautiful face and think only lateral maxillary positioning matters.   LOL What about the back of the arch?  I'm thinking here... why not keep gaps (assuming the airway space, width and maxillary frontal positioning is good) for wisdom teeth?  It seems the optimal later solution.  Early solutions are easy... but parents aren't even thinking those "healthy" squeezy packets or smoothies are dangerous to health, hapiness and beauty of their kids.   Super sad and sick...  Maybe California will create a label... "Soft foods can mess up your kids airway, teeth and facial (really whole body through poor sleep) aesthetics, and can cause mental heath problems."  Can we get started on this?
