Hey guys,
I have been thinking about this for a while:
Conventionally, most use headgear like this (
)
in order to protract the maxilla, with the forces being delivered by elastics.
But what if we used something like this (
)
which is typically used for distraction in lefort 3 distraction osteotomies?
We would simply need to build some kind of intraoral appliance that encompasses a majority of the palate and/ or the teeth of the maxilla, and then have the pull be slowly adjusted by a quarter turn every week or so, until no more than 0.5-1mm is brought forward in one month? I would understand there being the risks of maxillary fractures if the rate of forward pull is too fast, but I am unable to see the presence of this risk if this is done at a safe and slow pace.
