I'm so sorry to blow up the forum with all my questions, especially about this same thing the other day ( /community/community/main-forum/has-anyone-felt-their-cheekbones-slip-or-move/ ), but it seems much worse now and I need help.
The posterior ends of my cheekbones are tilted up, and the anterior ends under my eyes are lower, and it feels like the connection between the zygomatic and the temporal bone is broken or way out of place. Or, at least, that's what I think it is. There's a sizable gap between the bone at the end of my cheekbone and my ear, both sides, that wasn't there before. I can feel what I think is a lymph node on both sides in that gap. (If I place my finger on that spot, the skin is pulled in quite a bit when I open my jaw, if that helps describe the spot.)
I can see in the mirror that the zygomatic processes of the frontal bone are way more prominent, and my head feels weird, and occasionally aches or hurts in my cheekbones. Any tiny amount of pressure applied to anywhere in my mouth or face or even just opening my jaw results in pretty loud clicks and cracks in my ears.
Both of my eyes feel lower! I have to tilt my head more to see up, and I can see farther down by looking without moving my head. Yesterday I noticed a disconnect between what I expected to be looking at when I tilted my head, and what I actually saw: I had to look up a little bit with my eyes to see what I was pointing my face at!
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Have I done permanent damage? Everything in my face seems to be moving much faster than is expected from mewing, and I'm not just looking for things in the mirror. I could barely breathe through my nose with (what I'm now not sure actually is) correct oral posture a month or two ago, and within a few weeks of starting, I could! I remember sitting watching a movie, concentrating very hard on holding my tongue correctly, and I might have swallowed, and all of a sudden I felt something shift inside my head and I suddenly took in a huge amount of air ( /community/community/main-forum/anyone-felt-this-incredible-mental-feeling/ ).
I describe my mewing technique here: /community/community/main-forum/has-anyone-felt-their-cheekbones-slip-or-move/#post-959 On that post, Allixa suggested that I might be mewing wrong, but I can't seem to do the exercise he recommends. My adam's apple won't go up.
One thing you can try is to forget about the alveolar ridge and just push your tongue as far forward as possible (the front of your tongue will go down into your mouth near your bottom teeth) and then try pushing up with the posterior part of your tongue. If you get it right your adams apple should lift up, your jaws should naturally feel glued together, and there should be no strain in your tongue at all.
Thank you all so much for the help again.
Edit: Comparing my reflection to old pictures, it looks like my maxilla has retruded from where it was several days ago, but my palate has stayed widened. Doesn't the palate come down some when it's widened?
I havent experienced any of that, but what you describe sounds very serious, maybe you should see a doctor, make an x-ray?

Clearly this is highly irregular and nothing like what I have experienced or read about. Does your face feel tender to palpation (i.e. does it hurt when you touch it)? As Madeira said, you should probably go see a doctor if you are this concerned.

Not at all. The clicks and cracks have been present pretty much since I started mewing at all, and maybe gotten worse. What, like a regular PCP? Do MDs even know about all this kind of thing?
I think Madeira and I were just saying that if the temporal process of your zygomatic bones had really become detached somehow, it would be a serious concern that should be evaluated by your primary care physician, who could do a physical exam and maybe take some x-rays if warranted. They might also be able to talk to you about the legitimacy of your worries about connective tissue disorders you've mentioned in other threads. Over the internet, without even pictures, let alone examining you in person, it is very difficult to understand what you are describing. You're right that a conventional physician would probably balk at the notion of oral posture changing your facial form, but they would be able to tell you if something is broken. If you aren't in pain and your zygomatic bones don't shift around when you press on them, then maybe just relax and see how you feel in a couple days.
Apollo, you're quite right. Basically all I'm trying to describe is it feels and looks like the zygomatic bones on both sides have rotated so that the anterior end is down and the posterior end up.
Firstly, if you really think that your bones have seperated, that is a fracture in the skull and you need to go to the emergency room and get X-Rays
I say this only because the first advice should always be the most precaution. You seem to be concerned with having marfans syndrome, which results in lowered bone density and increased elasticity. Your recent posts have been alarming, so if you really think this is the case then you need to get yourself examined and actually confirm any diagnosis you are expecting.
To reassure you, however, I am almost completely sure that your bones have not completely broken free. I also have a gap between my checkbones and ear that you describe, which opens up further when I open up my jaw. I also have a noticable ridge where some of these bones seem to be out of place with eachoher.
The force required to actually completely separate your skull bones along the sutures is, quite frankly, something your body does not possess. You can open up the sutures, but to actually rip the bones apart would require thousands of pounds of pressure. Nothing you can do with your tongue can achieve this. And if you actually had separated the bones, you would be feeling immense sharp pain as the bone moved around freely in parts of your face. A bone fracture is immensely painful, a fracture in that temporal area would be blinding, and with a complete separation you would be incapacitated from pain.
So as much as I can assure you that your bones are not separated, I'm not a doctor nor can I see you personally. If you feel that you actually have something to be concerned about, get checked out. I understand you may be somewhere without this medical coverage as well, but you're claiming to have a very serious issue and it may be worth it for the peace of mind.

TGW, thank you for the reply. I think you're right. So, what then, is wrong with me? Have I mewed wrong? What should I do? I do look a little different in the mirror.
I belive you are overanalyzing the process and stressing because of it, I have also falled victim of this mental masturbation about the correct way to mew or if my face is changing correctly. Mewing is mewing, the only way to do it incorrectly is if you do not have the space to put the entire tongue up however this issue will be fixed by mewing itself, when I first started I thought I was doing it wrong, I was getting blisters on the sides of my tongue, later I notice my palate expading and giving more space, then the right side of my palate was somehow lower than the other side, I thought my face was deforming but later I started to push harder on the right side and problem solved. You will find all sorts of changes that could make you think you´re doing something wrong, however, changes because of mewing should be in itself encouraging, not something to stress about.
About moving your adam´s apple up try and drink water with your head pointed upwards (kind of like newborn birds eat) obviously using your tongue to get the water down, if this does not work you could also do a mew push swallow, hold it, and move your head upwards slowly while keeping the hold, it worked for me, and I do it everyday as an exercise. Good luck!
