Your face and jaw structure can naturally Change quite a lot even into your 30s (some People even have facial changes over the age of 40)
Thats why i dont take the mewing before and after pics of Young guys for serious, because your chin can naturally Change drastically it's projection and shape between the age of 15-20
One of my Family members is a chronic mouth breather since he's Born, but he doesnt has a gummy smile or something like that, and his chin is one of the strongest chins ive ever saw in real life (along with a very well sculpted mandible and jaw angle)
Mewing for Health purposes is absolutely recommendable, but These before & after pics of all These Young guys here are up to 95% only aging related
I mean cmon, if mewing would be the absolute Cure for weak chins and jaws then it would be a 100 times more popular
It is also 100% written in your genetics how well your bones will respond to stress for the re-modelling process
Someone with a osteopetrosis-like bone structure will probably dont respond at all
Yeah it's true that your face keeps changing with or without Mewing. I had some pretty drastic changes in my twenties, in terms of my masseters becoming way more muscular, my cheeks more hollow and my cheekbones more pronounced. I became a lot more "chiseled" looking. In my 40's, things have changed quite a bit over the last few years as well. The whole distribution of fat on my face has changed, and once I get into low body fat territory (like 12%), those changes are very pronounced. The topography of my face has become a lot more "extreme" looking, with clearly visible borders between the various areas of fat. I'm even getting long, curved creases where my dimples are as they delineate two areas of fat on my face. It's crazy. But at the same time a lot more masculine looking than I was before.
So the chief bone-related aesthetic effects sought after seem to be moving the maxilla up and forward, and building the zygos, too. Lately I'm wondering if it's not so much that tongue posturing helps with this directly, but rather it may help facilitate favourably changing your palate, which then permits the functionality to maintain this change in form, and from there maybe even permit changing bones somehow.
Think about the way FAGGA is said to work, essentially doing what mewing is said to do, but over a much shorter time period. But with a few caveats, as there are vague references to "visiting the osteopath", "the neck exercise" etc by FAGGA users here or on the FAGGA LVI Facebook group.
FAGGA/mewing induces growth at the maxillary tuberosity. So you get that growth, and then you may find like this person did that your molars, while chewing, are stimulating your zygos when before they couldn't on account of its formerly narrow, short shape. These results I just linked, I believe, help me make sense of my results, because it wasn't until the 4th year of mewing that I had some significant maxillary tuberosity growth which coincided with the beginnings of noticeable aesthetic results. It's just the nature of things that the changes can take a while with mewing alone, especially starting with dysfunction, a narrow & short palate, or other issues such as a mouthbreathing past that can interfere with progress.
With the maxilla, I wonder if it's that mewing alone is unlikely to get it moving favourably, requiring some kind of intervention such as an adjustment with the in-office osteopath made with ALF and FAGGA treatment, suggesting the tongue posture and those particular devices alone aren't sufficient to accomplish this. Just speculating here though.
There is another type of growth opportunity which I suspect is important and underappreciated or not considered enough with mewing, the potential for growth at the sutures. And I think this could be one reason for slowed results.
And then this possible growth opportunity for the mommas out there, which I hope doesn't backfire on me next time lol because my structure wasn't good at the time. I think there's some wisdom in the older traditions of binding the hips after childbirth because I didn't do that and my hips were popping something fierce for a while, very uncomfortable and I believe the physical change there may have contributed to worsening my forward head posture and CFD.
