Hello all,

I am interested in palate expansion which I want to achieve with Mewing. I want to get more room in my mouth which I think will help with my speech. Two things I wonder though:

1 - If the palate expands, will the lower teeth follow the upper ones naturally?

2 - I had extractions and orthodontics treatment so my teeth are not bunched up against each other, I am worried that mewing will create gaps between them. If you think that won't happen, what is the force that stops teeth from separating?

Interested to have people's thought on this

Yes your bottom teeth with move as well when mewing, everything has to adapt if your palate is expanding so your bottom teeth will have to adapt to the palate expansion.

Mewing should create a gap of where you had your teeth extracted in a perfect scenario but in reality if there is no teeth there anymore it will be difficult to actually create that space as there is no tooth to be pushed by the tongue outwards.

I meant to talk about a potential gap between that are touching, not a gap across the palate. Let me reformulate,

Will mewing create gaps between teeth that were previously touching ? I am worried that if there is more space in the palate then there is nothing that will stop teeth from separating

If you have poor tongue posture it’s probably because of a tongue tie.

I don’t think you can correct maxilla issues as an adult without some kind of palate expansion.  And tongue tie correction, when present.

A classical overbite happens when the maxilla is too narrow, and the jaw gets trapped in a posterior position.
