Hello all, I apologize if this or something similar has been answered before, but I am in desperate need of fixing my face and don't know how to proceed.

Without knowing anything about mewing and being completely uneducated on the whole teeth correction topic, I started wearing braces a couple of years ago. I removed them a few months ago, at 17 years old. My teeth are now straight but still have a slight overbite and a recessed chin. Now I have a retainer spring on my top teeth and plastic retainers which I am supposed to wear every night for a couple of years.

I am quite confused on what I should do now - I have heard that ditching the retainers and mewing properly, will result in the teeth staying the way they are and no harm done. However, when mewing, I can 100% confirm that putting on the retainers hurts more. If I don't mew, the teeth doesn't move and I can wear the retainers easily. It's also true that this is bad for me because the teeth are going back and forth and will eventually get weaker?

So what options do I have here? Mewing would probably result in me being unable to wear the retainers, which would be a disaster because my orthodontist who will check on me will see that something is wrong and I lost progress?

But at the same time I desperately need to mew while its not extremely too late yet, or I'm going to stay ugly forever?

Sorry for the lengthy post

First of all, calm down, remember you're in control of your treatment, not your orthodontist. I can understand how you feel, me personally I only wish I had told my orthodontist immediately after finding out about mewing to stop treatment, however I was young and intimidated by the prospect of doing such a thing. Just remember, YOU are in control of your own treatment.

Second, I'd like you watch this video, just keep in mind that Mike Mew is limited in what he can say because of legal reasons, so take what he says as you will https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPlse4UoMLQ

If you are willing and disciplined to mew, then it's probably best to ditch the retainers, or at least not wear them for any significant period of time. Constant teeth movement from not wearing your retainers consistently and/or mewing will damage your teeth, just keep that in mind. Soul search and ask yourself how much effort you are willing to put into mewing, how much you care about relapsing/not having perfectly straight teeth, explore other treatment options, etc. Don't mistake the difficulty of mewing, changing habits is HARD, changing habits when you have a handicap that makes things uncomfortable is even harder, but not impossible, it just takes a lot of effort. This is a 24/7 type ordeal, in order to get change it will have to be your goal to get the tongue on the roof of the mouth 24/7 and you will probably have to be in proper posture 24/7. If you want to get a feeling for the tongue do cheesy smile swallows, the goal is to try to hold that.

You are never too old to mew nor get treatment, there's a 70 year old who has proven clinical results after wearing the biobloc(?) appliance for a year.

Also here's some motivation, this person mewed from 18-21, good luck.

Thank you for the reply.
I have seen somewhere (maybe Mike Mew's video?)
that after mewing even if the teeth relalse because of
not using retainers, it can eventually straighten on its own
if I do it correctly and consistently.
Is this true?
EDIT: Ignore if this is mentioned in the above video, I'll watch it now

Hey - I just visited the otrhotropics website and found a map with members who offer orthotropic services. There isn't one for my country, but I found a member who looks like can help adolescents as well, in Ukraine, in which I go to every summer for 1 month. Do you think it would be a wise decision to wait one year while using my retainers, and then visit the orthotropist next summer for professional help? Or would it simply be a year of waiting wasted?

Another video from Mike Mew about your situation specifically (permanent retainer on the top teeth). Also, be aware that some practitioners might want you to visit them somewhat frequently, a month out of the year might not be enough, unless you set up some online consultation with them.
