Hello,
I am a 21-year-old guy who found Mike Mew a few weeks ago. I have starting mewing since a week ago. The first day I was only able to lift the tip of the tongue, but the second day I was able to also put the postural third of the tongue on the soft palate. I know I touched the soft palate because it felt slimy. The next day that feeling went away and it became less obvious whether I touched the soft palate.
When assuming correct tongue posture I try to really put the back of my tongue as far back and up as possible. When doing this the skin under my chin get lifted up and my airway gets blocked.
But this is where it gets a bit vague. I have read various sources that say your airway shouldn't be blocked and you need to put less pressure on your soft palate in order to breath. While Mike Mew tells in one of his videos to switch between pushing and not pushing in order to breathe.
The airway being blocked is quite a problem since it prevents me from mewing all the time. I have read that your airway will be opened if you persist but it's not obvious what the next step is.
So my questions are:
1. Am I doing this correctly (even when I don't seem to feel the soft palate)?
2. Should I push as hard as I can or just enough?
3. Should I be following Mike Mew's advice or follow the other sources (in regard to the breathing problem)?
I really want to do this properly from the beginning.
Thanks in advance!
