Hello guys and gals, so I was wondering if there is any research article that proofs that bone remodeling in adults, via mewing or by using an appliance, is possible. I think that it has been thoroughly confirmed that, bone structure depends on the posture and positioning of the tongue during childhood, and that bone can be remodeled as a child grows by using appliances, and this is a widely spread treatment, but is it possible for this to happen in adults?. I am a science guy, I like to research things and I try to think objectively, however, nowhere were I look in this forum I see a single solid proof that mewing actually works, and I don't want to devote my life to something that I don't know if it´s true. The problem here is that mewing seems like a pseudoscience, I´v seen many people claiming that they got incredible results in 4 months, others show pictures of before and after that seem exactly the same, others are apparently incapable of providing 2 pictures of before and after with the same lightning, and others seem like they just had surgery instead, I mean, it is not that hard to take a dental impression or take an X-ray photo, or simply, use the same lightning, I see many people believing whatever they want, for example, there is this video in youtube that uses "subliminal sounds" to make your maxillary bone to grow ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYni9Yq4FyQ) and the worst part is that if you look at the comments people are actually believing this crap, please explain me, why in the world would that work?, and then, there is this post of a guy saying that you can see if your maxilla will change or not by using your thumb, and that is also pseudoscience since it doesn't have any evidence, it´s just what that guy "feels that makes sense". So with all of this, it seem like there isn't really any solid proof that mewing works in adults, I would like you guys to search in the internet for research articles and see if any talk about this, and I don't know why there wouldn't be, it´s not like there is a conspiracy to keep this a secret. As I said, I want to know what really works, and use some proper science, instead of turning this into a cult, of people not trying to be objective, and rather making claims that are clearly biased to make others believe in mewing.
There are other treatments that can actually work in adults such as surgery and RPE ( https://www.semortho.com/article/S1073-8746(18)30009-4/pdf) but this is not "bone remodeling" there is not new bone being created, it´s just a separation of the maxilar bone in two pieces, and I don't know if you could use this method for sagittal growth.
Also I am going to add some pictures to show how different one can look using a different lightning and with a different jaw position.
Mewin is a pseudoscience
By nature it would not be, it would be only a theory, unfortunately a pseudo science becomes such when the arguments that support it have no scientific basis.
To say that a model has a perfect facial development because of the posture and the position of the tongue is stupid if not supported by evidence.
To say that our ancestors had perfect teeth, because they ate hard food is only an assumption based on scientific nothingness.
In truth our ancestors spent long periods of time even months, especially in winter without eating anything.
This is in part also reflected by our today metabolism.
It would be different if instead of using absurd anecdotes Mike Mew simply said
"I believe that a correct facial development depends on the posture of the tongue the posture of the body and by the correct and extensive use of masticatory muscle. My medical experience tells me that iam right hoewr we need more reeserch before state that this is true"
Actually this is what he says, but I think that he uses these analogies to reach and sensitize the greatest number of people possible.
I strongly doubt that he uses the same arguments he uses on the web when he is in the presence of other orthodontists because they would laugh at him for sure.
anyway, this is really a new field and at the moment there is no scientific evidence and you will not find it.
Probably it will take decades to come to a conclusion.
We are on this forum and we are working to find out if these theories are true.
Unfortunately to verify if these theories are true we must necessarily believe in this theory without any proof.
Otherwise We would never make any progress.
The problem is that sometimes users lose their objectivity and claim changes that are only in there mind.
The fact that at the moment no one has achieved any results does not necessarily mean that mewing does not work.
Personally I think it works only for children aged 0 to 12 years however mewing does not cost anything and the possible benefits are way superior than effort you have to put in.
On this forum you will find three groups the skeptik the belivers, and uncertain, you decide wich side you want to be, but always respecting the opinion of others.
Why dont you just mew and see for yourself?
I agree with that, but why isn’t there any research? If Mew was expelled from the orthodontic comunity, why doesn’t he just make a research article about this? I know many people would volunteer, there is plenty of research that proffs that this works in young people, but none about adults
I have been for a year, and I don’t see any change
Adults can get messed up. Curve of spee. I see it all the time...
Look at 7:20 here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TsNe2SRUw0&t=76s She has bad curve of spee, yet pedals this crap! LOL

How can you tell without a dental cast? Is it something you can just get an eye for? I'm trying to figure out how to calculate mine and saw on studies you need a dental cast to do the measurements.
Remember this pain... and let it activate you.
