Hey all, been mewing for almost 2 months in a very intense way - hard mewing, lot of chewing..., received some forward projection but that is still not solving my main problem which is asymmetry. Left side of my face is lower than right, I always knew this BUT some days ago I was observing my face to figure out what else makes my sides look so different from each other and then I realized that not only my left side is lower than right but also more forward and my right side is higher but pushed back more, it also looks that my right- higher side has less developed muscles I suppose but I cannot be sure about this as this side is obviously pushed back more so the cheek and under eye area is sunken in a way it looks pulled back to to the right side so it is hard to say if muscle development plays a role too or the only problem is the back maxilla growth. Left maxilla is more forward so the area is not sunken and looks nice, it only needs a little upward swing. As I noticed this I realized my palate is “deformed” in a same way obviously so are my teeth, especially lower and of course my jaw. On the left side my palate is lower but more forward while on the right side it is higher but it is pushed back so when I place my tongue where it’s supposed to be it sits nicely on the left side especially as it’s lower so the contact is more “intense” but on the right side, the palate is pushed back at the beginning . Sorry im not a native speaker so I cant really explain it well but you may get an idea of the shape from the fact that right side - jaw, palate, teeth are up and backward and left side is lower and forward. So my question is how to even this s*it out? The thing Im working on now is being focused on pushing the left side up, but I cannot figure out how to push right side forwards, Im trying to chew more on right side and also trying face pulling only my right side of palate forwards with my thumb, I only started working on this horizontal palate asymmetry few days ago... Any ideas on this kind of problem? How did you work with it if you had a simmilar issue? Thanks a lot.
I have a very similar problem mewing hasnt changed anyhting i think it has to do with either sleeping on only one side or chewin on one side. i had this before mewing so i dont think mewing will make it worse. its quite a common problem it will get more attention soon.
I agree Lil Nut.
Another thing that can prevent progress in fixing it or make it worse is tilting your head to one side. If you do this your neck muscles, the scalenes in particular, will be tight. Rolfing style massage, self administered or not, can release them. They are quite difficult to access so look it up.
Have a look at Progress’s thread of his progress in the personal stories section. He has recently discussed his approach to this problem of unevenness in the palate. I think there is not so much a definitive way to proceed more things to be aware of.
It's called a "canted" arch or "canted" smile or just "cant".
