Weird mewing progress observation - my palate seems tastier and more succulent

It's been really fascinating to monitor all the changes in my mouth the longer I practice correct tongue posture. I've become more aware of my tongue as well as the whole geometry and topography of my palate. The way mewing "feels" has changed periodically. My tongue now fits the curve of my palate very nicely, whereas before it was constantly struggling to reposition itself and work itself snugly into one place at the expense of coming loose at another. It doesn't do that any more, and I'm able to keep it up there without thinking about it.

Also, all of the soreness and chafing I used to get from my tongue pressing and rubbing against my back molars has gone. It actually feels like there's more room back there now, although I know that I probably haven't experienced expansion in just a few weeks. Perhaps my molars have tipped a little? Whatever the cause, I like the feeling of extra space and being able to flatten my tongue more.

And this is gonna sound crazy but I've started to notice that my palate has a "taste" and a texture that I quite like. As I've progressed, it's begun to feel more and more "succulent," for want of a better word. Perhaps it's all the extra saliva and hydration from swallowing correctly and not having a dry mouth? It just feels healthier up there. When I'm tongue swallowing now, it's actually a very pleasant feeling, almost like sucking on a lozenge. It definitely feels like the extra hydration that correct tongue posture creates is very healthy for the whole mouth.

mmmm yummy.

It sounds like your tongue is becoming stronger and more capable of posturing correctly. It's possible that your molars have tipped, that's usually caused by high forces, or just your palate has widened. Normal bone remodeling is usually at the rate of 1/4th of millimeter per week, so its possible you have expanded.

Keeping your mouth closed with your tongue against your palate could have improved the profile of your oral microbiome.

Yeah it definitely feels like there's more space, even though I'm aware at how easy it is to fool one's self in these matters. For instance, maybe the edges of my tongue developed a resistance to the chafing of the molars and thus I don't feel them as much. Having said that, I do remember a time early in my mewing when I would cram the back of my tongue between my back molars and then relax - it would try to expand and I'd feel this very strong force pushing the molars apart, so much so that I worried I would actually uproot them (I know that's ridiculous but that's what it felt like). Now, I can get the tongue in there without that tight squeeze. I guess single mm's of expansion will probably make all the difference.

I have no doubt that it has. Dry mouths are a death sentence for oral health. What I've noticed now is that if I relapse and start breathing through my mouth subconsciously, my mouth quickly becomes so dry that I'm jolted back into awareness and put my tongue back in place. I don't remember my mouth getting that dry before, so either I've been spoiling myself with all of this wonderful oral moistness to the point where the same level of dryness feels worse, or mouth breathing is actually making my mouth drier than it was before.

I wonder about this...

Check out my post on people watching - old people.  I think that a forward/wider maxilla makes us hungrier!  I beleive it can even effect our body type!

When you noticed more space on the palate, did you also notice exterior changes (on your face)?

I definitely feel a bit more space with my tongue, but on the outside, it seems like nothing's changed. So could it be that the outside appearance / changes is lagging behind the palate changes?

Hungrier as in a bigger appetite? Because I think mine is quite forward and I eat quite sparingly most days. In fact I wish I had a bigger appetite.

Yeah that's why I question whether I've had any real expansion or just tipping of the molars. The only noticeable change I've seen in my face is that my cheeks have reached peak hollowness, and I can't imagine that happening if my maxilla widened.

The other possibility is that the tongue becomes "numb" to the abrasive feeling of rubbing up against the molars, and maybe that's why I feel more space.

How wide is your maxilla?  The theory I'm kind of coming up with has to do with the posterior maxillary arch positioning and/or the area in 2-d of the roof of the mouth from above.  That's kind of what I'm sensing.

You mean what is my IMW? Or some other measurement? I have never actually measured my IMW but I think I have a narrower than average palate while not being as narrow as many cite on here (I can get my tongue up there).

Yes - I did notice that in old age, those who had a bigger maxillary perimeter seemed to be fat.  If your IMW is narrow... you can tell with the celery test here: http://orthotruth.com/whats-up.html   then that would be good to know.  Also, how much it cuts into the face area... how far back the posterior portion is...

I have a poor sense of smell.  I wonder if there's something with smell or something going on?  My maxilla wasn't back, per say, and I did receive braces.. but my dental arch isn't as big as some.  Anyway, I cannot comment so much on younger people.  Weight seems to be all over the map for younger people.
