What exactly causes this jaw shading seen in some people?

Sometimes you see this and sometimes you don't. Even some people with low body fat and a strong jaw don't have it.

Is it caused by having both the mandible and the maxilla forward?

I actually have this and I have pretty bad CFD. It's all just having low BF% on your face. Some people have it and some don't

Lighting. Low bodyfat .That is it. In certain lighting I have it but my cfd is bad (50mm Mew line tbh )

Very easy to fraud it with makeup, lighting. If you have the underlying structure for it then it may help to eliminate excess bloat and fat on your face to make it more prominent. Lymphatic massage and mewing or specific face exercise for the cheeks can help here. But I'm not sure if cheek exercise is good for men, maybe it would look too neotenous.

It's the zygomaticus muscle standing out because of the configuration of everything else.
