I just posted this comment under another thread, but I wanted to tackle the question of forward growth. There are a few Youtubers namely, thefacehack guy who advocates pushing your tongue directly into your front teeth to cause forward growth. In fact I've seen many people ask this question, namely, is pushing forward going to give forward growth?
I've done as much research as I can on this topic, without being a medical professional of any kind, but the answer seems to lie in 'inter molar width'. Everything in the face works in tandem with each other, if something changes, then so does another part, ultimately to produce a state of equilibrium.
Dr. Enlow suggests that the stimulation of the maxillary tuberosity is the driving force in terms on maxillary growth, and therefore directly correlated to inter molar width. As the inter molar width increases, then so the maxilla is also forced to grow forward. Furthermore, because of this, there are bone disposits left at the around the TMJ area which promotes the mandible to grow forward to meet the growing maxilla.
Thanks for reading, I've linked the relevant article below. A lot of it is tense material. Cheers
Could pressing your tongue forward, say at the alveolar ridge also cause forward growth? Or do you think it's strickly the cause of increased molar width? I've no clue
So you believe pushing forward with your tongue is the most effective way of obtaining forward growth of the maxilla? Are you aware of any journals or articles that I could read about this?
Tear force of eating food with your hands.
Expansion is forward growth is counterclockwise rotation is upward growth is a decreased Mew line.
genetics and life style could make it worse... like most of us here if we had the correct body and tongue posture we wouldn't end up with down grown jaws.... instead we will have average normal skulls at least.
At this point I'm not convinced any forward force is required for forward growth.
Take a look at the Homeblock. It only seems to have a screw for lateral expansion.
Yet it still seems to cause some forward growth.
