Will mouth breathing while exercising affect my jaw

I'm not typically a mouth breather. However, I run or exercise frequently to stay in shape. Like most people while running, I breath through my mouth. If I do this fairly often due to exercise, will it affect my jaw? Or is it negligible if I try my best to maintain proper tongue posture for the rest of the day.

No, if I remember correctly its for such a little amount of time that you should be fine. You should try and nasal breathe however whilst working out as it as has a lot of benefits.

I think that unless there's some underlying problem with the airways, it should be perfectly possible  for anyone to breathe through the nose while working out. I'm convinced that the problem most people have is psychological, i.e. they've come to see mouth breathing as the "only" way to get enough oxygen during physical activity, and breathing through the nose triggers an unnecessary panic response whereby they feel like they're not getting enough oxygen when they really are.

The reason I think this is because I sometimes have the same problem when working out, but what I find is that if I start nose breathing and forget about it, 10 minutes later I'll realize that I've been nose breathing just fine with no problems. But as soon as I start thinking about it, the panicky feeling kicks in and I'm tempted to mouth breathe. So the key for me is to try and think about something else so that the nose breathing is just happening instinctively and I'm not focused on it.

You could try easing yourself into nose breathing by doing it 50/50, i.e. breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. In fact this is how I was told to breathe at school when we did long distance running.

Nose breathing is superior  for athletes. It's like taking beet powder except you don't have to pay $60 per container

I agree, however, do not forget that swimmers breath in through their mouth, and breath out either with their mouth or nose or both at the same time. Mouth breathing is not as bad as people think. Too much of  a good thing is not good either, moderation is the key and of course knowing what you're doing helps as well.

I'm not saying to mouth breath all day long, i don't do it myself, but i do drills like this one in this video:

It’s not better for running, just to point out.

Depends. If you have CFD, yes, breathing through your mouth will be better in terms of getting more oxygen because thats how your face has adapted. However, someone with correct facial development will have better results breathing through their nose. CFD causes the nasal passages to narrow and the airway to restrict, making it difficult to breath through the nose while exercising, but it is the correct way to breathe at ALL times.

Yes it is. I am a long distance runner and know for a fact that nose breathing is the way to breath during running. Some people when they are getting tired they exhale through the mouth, and that is fine. But in general, nose breathing is the way to go. I've trained with a bunch of elite athletes in the past, including Kenyan runners and they all breath through their nose in and out through any race they run.

If so, I find it extremely difficult if not impossible to get the diaphragm breathing through the stomach when I breach through the nose while running. Is this typical?

It just takes practice if you are not used to it . Practice until you don't have to think about it, make it second nature to you.
