Hey some background is that my dad and older brother both have square angular faces. As a kid, I was told I had the same bone structure as them but as I aged my face became longer and less supported. I had braces and breathing problems going up but thankfully I played a lot of sports my entire childhood and teenage years and I think it spared me a lot of damage because I was so active and healthy even though I had asthma and allergies.  The other thing is my face is really asymmetrical and I always thought I was just weird and had weird genes. As I discovered, we all have the genes to make beautiful faces and I can see that through the way my older brother's face developed with the same genes (although slightly wider skull baseline).

Anyways, the reason I'm here is because I'm pretty sure my orthodontist is the reason why my initial crossbite was never fixed so my teeth were never articulating properly on my right side (thus my jaw on my right side never developed). I guess crossbite wasn't the right term, but It felt like my left side was getting all the love while my right side kinda just did nothing, and that honestly is how my face grew and it's crazy. My entire bite was shifted to the left, so the right side wasn't getting adequate pressure or articulation, which explains why my jaw has a really high gonial angle only on my right side and why it ended up being so much narrower. And on the left side, only the back corner of my molars would articulate, and this caused the left side of my face to develop a larger jaw (although incorrectly shaped/angled because of structure/function relationship) and also made it so my maxilla on the left side doesn't support my eye orbit (thus way more sclera show on the left side).

I discovered that I had been biting down incorrectly once I started watching some mike mew videos and I realized that what my orthodontist told me about my teeth was incorrect and it really turned out that part of my maxilla didn't grow properly and caused this crossbite.

As a result, I've been actively mewing and trying to fix my huge asymmetries and I've been seeing some crazy progress.  My tongue couldn't even fit under my right side because the jaw hadn't been in use for so long and it grew downward and narrow. My front palate where anterior tongue touches dips low on the left side indicating the melting that happened and thus the recessed cheek on the left side.  Here's what's going on now.. I've been mewing for almost a month now. My jaw on the right side is much larger and my cheekbone/browridge look way different. My actual jaw angle has changed as well. I also feel this constant clicking/cracking noise whenever I press upwards with my left jaw as if my drooping maxilla is clicking back up.

If it's in my DNA to have a thick facial bones and strong muscles (I'm 6'1 215 lbs with a solid lifting foundation), will mewing overtime and restoring my faces proper function, grow my face to the way it should have looked? The reason I'm convinced this all works is because of how much change I've seen in just a month of proper oral posture, active mewing, and good standing/sitting posture.

I really think a lot of my health issues stemmed from orthodontics and the fact that they didn't fix how my teeth articulated. As a result my left and right side had completely different pressures and grew absolutely differently. Not only that, my left side has had so many back problems and issues and I really think it stems from improper head posture that I wasn't even aware of because it was my natural tendency from the smashed airway. The chin tucks exposed just how incorrect my posture was and why my body has been paying the price.

My face is already noticeably wider and my eyes look like they have more support. The overall shape of my face is different as well because of the postural change. It's honestly starting to resemble the shape of my brother's face with a narrower phenotype (even as kids).  He has no sclera show though and his face is so much shorter and has no sclera show because it grew properly.  The other noticeable change is since puberty I've had a really crooked nose. The left side has a lot more bone on the nose than the right since it never developed and my nose really is starting to look more even as my airways are better and my tongue can more comfortably sit under my palate. I wasn't even able to take a breath in when mewing initially as I felt it was closing my airway.

But yeah that's a general overview. I've always known something was off about my face even though I've been considered goodlooking by a lot of people. But bone structure really separates good from great and now that I'm aware of my issues I'm slowly trying to change my habits and hopefully grow my face properly.

I share the same, my left profile and much better placed than the right due to occlusion, mewing is legit my friend

What exactly is your mewing technique? Did you have troubling breathing when you initially starting mewing or did it come naturally to you?

What exactly is your mewing technique? Did you have troubling breathing when you initially starting mewing or did it come naturally to you?

I've been trying to put my tongue on the roof of my mouth for the last 4-5 months and been closing my mouth and lips sealed with chin tuck. Something that I do that I don't think a lot of people do is hard mewing, and I think this over time is what has caused such dramatic change. I would press upwards with my tongue and sideways and I could literally hear my maxilla crack and release and expand. Even now, a few months in, I still hear these cracks and release of tension.

Initially, it was hard to breathe through my nose with my tongue on the roof of my mouth because I didn't have enough space for my airway. After a few months of repeated attempts and constant attention to tongue placement and mewing, my airway definitely expanded and I can breath through my nose with proper oral posture.

This stuff really works and I haven't used my inhaler for asthma in 4-5 months because of it. It makes me question doctors and what the truth is about everything, because I don't think they really know. Had I known all I had to do was close my mouth and put my tongue up, I would have avoided years of health issues, I would have obsessed over it as I do now.

People in my life have seen enough change to start incorporating correct posture. I'm a science background so I can actually explain a lot of stuff mew discusses to them. I've also been getting WAY more attention from women and it's making me realize how important mewing is for overall well-being. The thing is, aesthetics are just secondary, all the health benefits are insane. I can breath without an inhaler for the first time in my life since I was 6. Not only that, I feel sharper and less ADHD than ever. I have the ability now to just sit and concentrate and I've had trouble with that my whole life ( I was a mouthbreather with allergies and sinus problems). Anyways, better late than never, this stuff is the real deal and when my transformation is complete in a few years I may return and share to give back to this community that changed my life.

The changes are subtle over time, but the longer the timeframe, the more framed and robust my face has been getting (it's starting to look like my face when I was a kid).

Here's the thing though, I've put in a lot more force and time than I think most people do during mewing. I've basically obsessed over it until it became natural (and that took almost 4-5 months). During this time, my jaw and my tongue, and my mouth has been sore from all the pressure, but my tongue had no room to fit in my mouth and it needed to change, so I hard mewed and all the work and pain has been paying off. I don't know how important hard mewing is in adults, but had I not been pressing with force, I don't think I would've seen all this great change and expansion.

For measurements, I didn't measure anything. I went from not being able to fit my tongue between my molars and my left maxilla being completely retracted and collapsed (airway closed off, this is why I had horrible asthma as I got older from poor orthodontic work), to being able to put my tongue comfortably in chin tuck and breath normally through nose. It hasn't happened overnight though, it has been slow, subtle change from the gradual body and oral posture change.

Put in the work and reap the rewards boyos! This stuff is the holygrail.

Without pictures your are just statements to be taken in confidence! Also you have not even measured your IMW, how can you make all these proclamations?

If you can't keep your tongue on the posterior end (back-side) because it causes breathing problems and your airway doesn't have enough space (as did I initially), I would put pressure with my tongue against my palate with my posterior end so it gets stronger and tells my palate to move out of the way. I would do it with upward force and sideway force (width) with posterior tongue. I would do the same with my anterior tongue against front of palate behind the teeth. I had such a deformed palate initially my entire left side drooped to one side and my right side was completely underdeveloped and narrow. They're getting closer and closer to symmetrical and my palate feels like a flat-sheet now and my entire tongue fits and I can breath.

I really think if you just apply decent amount of pressure (like a workout) to strengthen your tongue, your gums and palate and all that stuff actually signal that theres pressure being applied there and that stimulates expansion and growth. You're basically telling your body "yo I'm here so move out of the way" and it really seems like the body responds in that way.

I've also made it habitual to have perfect posture and oral posture as well. Proper chin tuck with teeth touching and tongue on roof of mouth. I wasn't able to do this over night though and it took almost 6 months to get to this point, but incremental gain is what you're after; Rome wasn't built in a day! And  here's the thing, your face really is like the rest of your body. You go to the gym and lift some weights to strengthen your arm, you can do the same thing with your jaw and food, and your cheekbones. It's all the same. Your face isn't special, and that's why modern society is so underdeveloped, because sedentary lifestyle that doesn't emphasize postural strength leads to weak-bodied and weak-faced people. It all really makes sense when you look at it. Use your face the way it was meant to be used, eat the way your'e supposed to eat, swallow the way you're supposed to swallow, and learn proper oral posture and perfect it. You do all this stuff and I guarantee your body/face will change for the better towards what it should have become under optimal conditions.  There's too much proof that this stuff works, the sad truth is it requires immense amount of effort and basically an entire overhaul (for a lot of people) on habits and tendencies that they've developed since they were kids.

And just to share, there were days where I pressed hard, and clenched hard, and did hard mewing and it was actually painful. I could feel all the deformed bone being pressured and the misaligned bite. Everything could be felt and it took a lot of persistence and constant pressure all day everyday until the point that change was induced. I really feel like I gave my body no choice but to change, I tried really hard.

And I know this is all anecdotal, but I get so much more girl attention now (like when I was a teenager). My gf (of 5 years) is constantly telling me how much shes drooling over how attractive she's been finding me recently. Little does she know I've been working my ass off for 6 months straight trying to fix my deformed orthodontics face. I'm not here to brag or spill my life, but I mean there has been a definite change in how women view me when I talk to them and it's instinctive and it's because of my face.

Keep mewing, you guys (we all) have discovered the holy grail and should take advantage of it.

I know I'm only at the beginning of my journey, but considering how much better my face and mouth works and feels in six months alongside the aesthetic benefits, is insane. The amount of work put in is probably too much for most people to commit but I had a three month vacation and all I focused on was bettering my body and fixing my oral posture and mewing. Just here to spread the word and shine a little light.

Lol I will maybe one day show pics in a few years or if I really feel like it needs to be seen. But I'm so certain of change because of all the cracking, pressure sensations, tongue space expansion, that has taken place over the span of time.  My nose looks completely different, my cheekbones are way larger, and my lips look different, and my jaw is wider.

The reason I know it's real (even without measuring) is because of how the inside of my mouth feels today (6 months down the line) compared to initially. I was so aware of how my mouth felt prior because I'd lived with it my entire life. I just thought thats how faces felt, that's how jaws worked, and that whatever weird deformity I had was due to just my genes coding me that way. The truth of the matter is (after discovering this site) faces develop poorly due to oral posture, and once I realized that my dentist completely screwed me with braces and ruined my bite, that was why my face developed crooked and incorrectly. (I have pics of me as a kid with a wide face and huge jaw like my dad, to the recessed, jawless face I had as an adult). Anyways I discover this site, start habitually mewing and forcing my body to change, and it did. My left side is almost caught up to my right side, my left third molar randomly started erupting completely (wasn't ever out completely because my left jaw was so recessed). My jaw is projecting more, and my cheekbones are more developed. On top of all that I used to not be able to put 1/2 of my tongue up at the roof of my mouth and I couldn't breath with it either. I can do entire tongue now and breath through nose. I had an inhaler for asthma my entire life (since 6 years old and I'm 25) and I haven't used my inhaler for 6 months almost now. If it's not from mewing and increased airway space and less recession, what's it from? Why did mewing work?

Yeah I know I have no pics, but I'm so certain about mewing that I'm coming out here to type all this out and share with you guys because of how much this community has changed my life. I've had such bad health issues (really ever since orthodontics which is insane to make all these connections), but yeah it was detrimental to my health. Call it random chance or luck but I've had cancer, back disc problems (spine was twisted due to orthodontics shifting my bite and making me habitually twist my head (was natural for so long no idea I had that going on), asthma and other problems like deviated septum. But my point is, I've got a brother with a beautifully grown face (looks like a movie star) and he's never been sick a day in his life. I've started getting all these problems ever since poor orthodontic treatment, and everything has been reversing and I feel better than I have in years. Is it all a coincidence? I really don't think so. And it's impacted me positively so much that I want you guys to know.

sometimes I press hard at a specific "recessed" part of my maxilla, and if I sustain the pressure (keep it there) I literally feel  the pressure centralize and then pop, and the part I put pressure on moves and "releases" or that's what it feels like. I can feel the subtle shift happen. And the more movement and pressure release I get, the easier it gets because everything starts to just fall into place and your tongue gets stronger as well.

@tumbandjumb

I have the exact same issue as you. My left side is developed than right side and have a pelvic imbalance. Maybe it was orthodontic treatment which caused the pelvic imbalance.

How is the weaker part of your face looking now?

Recessed part = Torus palatinus ?

Interesting. Do you push straight up or up and forward when focusing on it?

When mewing normally do you use suction hold ?

Just a random thought: Did you notice any increase in size of your tongue? (hypertropy)

Edit: And how long did it take for you to feel these movements of your bones?

All I read is great man, Im happy for you. Some questions: how did your sleeping oral posture change throughout those 6 months? I remember that before mewing I would wake up next to a pool of saliva on pillow, not anymore now, although when I wake up I find only the tip of the tongue up on the roof. I think getting sleeping mewing right is crucial for faster development. Can you relate? If so, any tricks you used to improve mewing while sleeping? Thanks in beforehand.

@tumbandjumb

Hi,

Like you experienced, I can't fit the back of my tongue on the roof on my mouth because my teeth get in the way and so my question is regarding how you managed to make space for your tongue and widen your maxilla and space between the back teeth. I just know there is no way I would be able to generate enough force to push the teeth / maxilla apart laterally with my tongue and from what I have read about mewing, it is the back of the tongue which is the most important to get right.

1. So regarding your technique, was there any conscious use of the tongue to apply lateral forces to the back teeth, if not how was this achieved?

2. Do you engage your sternocleidomastoid muscle when mewing, or is it relaxed?

3. Also could you please do an evaluation of my technique which I will outline below and let me know what I need to change to improve the technique?

My technique:

Create oral vacuum with as much of the tongue on the roof of the mouth as possible ; teeth together ; lips together. In terms of pressure of the tongue on the roof of the mouth, for the back of the tongue there is no pressure because it can't touch the roof, the middle of the tongue there is a light pressure and the front of the tongue a moderate pressure but only slightly more than the middle. Now when I hard mew I really try and consciously use the front of the tongue to push up on the ridged region behind the front teeth. The middle of the tongue applies very little force directly upwards on the palate, but for the part of the tongue which I would describe as being between the front and middle, I use it to push forward and up on that bit where it curves substantially away from the front ridged part of the palate.

So in summary front and front-middle tongue section - lot's of force. Middle tongue section- Only a little force. Back tongue - No force as teeth are in the way.

Yeah straight up, I'm into you just hearing about this transformation.....

I'm kidding.. dont report m3.

In all seriousness did you focus much on a lip seal?? OR did you already have one?
