Hi there. When pushing your tongue up into the roof of the mouth, should it be a light pressure or a hard pressure?

The reason why I am asking for, is because when I look at myself in the mirror, it looks like I'm straining myself/I look tense and my neck seems to extend quite a bit. So, to me it doesn't look natural. But is this the way I need to get myself used to looking like to achieve good results? Thanks

When you ask someone with a lack of muscle tone to sit up straight or have proper posture this takes that person effort and you could say that they are straining or tensing themselves. However, if you take someone like this

because of the sheer amount of muscle tone, it takes no effort at all to stand up straight (extreme example). In the same way, it feels like you're straining yourself and look tense because you don't have the strength or muscle tone to support yourself naturally. Just keep trying you'll build it up slowly. You could also try to do some exercises to help you build up muscle tone in that area.

I was JUST about to make a post about this. When I mew this "bulge" under my jaw/neck extends rather considerably. This means my tongue is dropping substantially and it is much harder to keep it on the roof of my mouth. When I started this wasn't a problem and it seems to be getting worse so I don't believe this is due to a lack of muscle tone. Is this the soft area under my jaw getting weaker/more stretchy? It certainly doesn't feel like it's getting better and it's worrying me. Are there any exercises to make it firmer? Is it even a muscle?

pls help. i'm pretty concerned about this

@krollic

I assume you are talking about this area.

It seems to me that pushing up with the tongue actives this muscle as well as other muscles surrounding it. Not only that, it raises the hyoid which mitigates a double chin and makes that area seem tighter and probably makes this muscle activation more noticeable. This is not a concern at all, just make sure while you're mewing that you also have proper head posture (try the mckenzie chin tuck  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xSlX7n-IHw). I suspect that maybe it might be challenging to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth because if you don't fix head posture it makes it impossible to maintain 24/7.

I don't know about all that. Lots of people with heavy muscle tone have bad posture. It's a mistake to assume muscle tone improves posture. Many lifters and bodybuilders actually have terrible posture and overly rounded shoulders.
