Blocking airway while mewing?

I know Dr. Mew talks about practicing tongue placement by alternating between having your tongue blocking your airway and not blocking it but I feel that my oral posture is best when my tongue is blocking my airway. Is the ability for my tongue to block off my airway like that a sign of bad craniofacial development? Should my tongue be blocking my airway? If I practice holding my tongue up like that and trying to breathe, will I eventually be able to breathe? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

honestly i realized recently that i was going too far back on my pallete i didnt realize i had the back third up already so i pushed it far back almost too my throat. once i moved it a bit forward my breathing improved although it doesnt completley unblock it.

When I mew, I know that the back of my tongue is in the right position but my throat closes up. When I mew without using my throat l, it doesn’t feel right. I have looked and I know my throat closes up because it is similar to when I swallow. How do I fix this?

same here. After I swallow my back third goes into a suction hold, being in the right place. After that, I feel like my tongue pushes upwards (which I think it's proper posture) but my airway is blocked. Should I just alternate between lowering it to take breaths and mew again?

Lol at you, guys, you're doing a swallow-hold, which blocks the airway to prevent food from going into the lungs, it's not even the tongue blocking the airway...

@auxiliarus Lol you saying that kinda saved me ALOT of time. I went on reddit and found I was doing it wrong. If it wasn't for you saying this, I would've continued, because I thought my palate would just expand. Lol thanks bruh

Let the hyoid relax, when you swallow the hyoid comes up and forwards tilting the epiglottis backwards and closing the airway. You can try this for yourself, feel where your hyoid is when you swallow, you'll see it comes up really high, try to hold the highest position of the hyoid during the swallow, you'll notice you can't breathe. In addition to the epiglottis, the soft palate will also tilt backwards to close the airway, this is what auxilliary is referring to with a "swallow-hold". The hyoid is connected to the tongue so it should come up a little bit when you're mewing, but it should not go up all the way like when you swallow, this will close your airway.

@sinned that makes a lot of sense and all but many people say to just ''keep going and eventually it'll expand'' or some shit like that. If it's not the ''swallow-hold'' which prevents food from choking you (but also feels like a very effective mewing technique) then what is the correct mewing position. How do you mew without blocking the airway? Swallow and let go a little or it is something completely different. Because if it's in the swallow hold position it's never gonna expand even if you keep if there.

Feel your adam's apple when you swallow, hold at the peak of the swallow, you won't be able to breathe. Do the same thing, but instead of holding the swallow at the peak, let the adam's apple come down while keeping the tongue up.  Because the tongue is attached to the hyoid, the raising of the tongue also raises the hyoid, but in a swallow the hyoid will raise itself even more and come forward a bit to tilt the epiglottis backwards and close the airway. You can test this yourself by feeling where the adam's apple is in three different positions, when the tongue is on the floor of the mouth, when the tongue is on the roof of the mouth, and at the peak of the swallow.

This video shows what the hyoid does during a swallow at 2:57

You can also try learning how to raise the posterior part of the tongue without a swallow, look in the mirror, open the mouth a bit until you can see the back of the tongue, then try to raise just the back part of the tongue. Just establish the mind-muscle connection for the back of the tongue so you don't need to swallow to get the tongue up on the roof of the mouth.

@sinned Hey man how's it going with hardmewing? Is it getting easier and are you seeing results? I'm rooting for you bro.

I was thinking that once someone gets their tongue over a certain strength threshold results will come. But it might take months to years to build up that much tongue strength. I really think hardmewing is the answer to why practically no one its seeing results.

@chiefkeefsosa

My chin is more prominent, slightly straighter teeth, no noticeable changes in the cheekbones. I hardmewed for about 2 months or so and started getting TMD issues, huge rip for me. I already had TMD but it got worse, basically, the force of my tongue is sort of pushing my mandible back in the TMJ, I found that thumbpulling helped with my TMD issues, it gave temporarily relief. I'm experimenting with something else instead of hardmewing all day, I can mew ridiculously hard for a short while, so I'm trying sort of like a mew workout regime. I'll mew as hard as humanly possible for a minute, then thumbpull as hard as I can for minute, then mew as hard as humanly possible for a minute, and so on, like a superset. You can just keep going for a while because you're allowing rest for the thumbs and tongue. It sounds ridiculous but I'll report in if it works lol. To reiterate, the longer I hardmew the more pain I start getting in my TMJ, which is why I'm doing these short bursts. I thought it would be simple enough to just jut my jaw forward to prevent to tongue from pushing my mandible back, but it's not only the fact that I'm set back, but also that there's an asymmetry, all the pain is concentrated on the right side. Another thing I'll mention is that it does seem like the tongue gets stronger or at the very least it gains more endurance, when I first started hardmewing it was difficult to hold for even a couple minutes and I wasn't even going that hard. It's fairly easy now and I can generate tons of force with my tongue. The anterior tongue can produce 6 psi and posterior tongue 10 psi, I have a feeling I can produce more force than that, but, I really doubt the average person in the studies that measure tongue strength are a good measure of how much force the tongue can produce in a hardmewer. There's studies on tongue exercises and they do increase the tongues performance a little bit, but honestly, the tongue exercises are quite pathetic and nowhere near the effort you can put in.
