Hi, I bought a y-plate expander and am going to try john mew's semi rapid expansion. Have people known anyone else who has successfully used this method with a y-plate? Would i do the whole 7mm in 7 weeks or break it into segments. e.g.1 mm per week 1/8th of a turn a day, 1 week off then another 1mm the next week? How long before the lower jaw follows roughly, instantly or weeks or months? I have read a few posts but i'm in a rush as i have trapped wisdom teeth trying to come through and would like to fit them into my jaw rather then get them taken out as i've had previous extractions. Also my y-plate expander has two sagittal screws and i'm confused wether i will be turning them both and how much to achieve 1/8th of 1 mm a day? Current IMW 30. Trying to get to 37. @crimsonchin Who can afford a professional these days? They say a bit of guess work is usually pretty close to the truth? Any suggestions you have would be helpful? Still tossing up between slow and semi rapid? Do you happen to know have fast you can expand the upper palate while still maintaining occlusion?
@miketv A professional would know exactly how much to adjust the device since that is what they're trained for; I'd hardly call that guess work - saving a few hundred dollars isn't worth possibly fucking up your face for life.
