I'm sure this is common in many who have adopted improper swallowing patterns and lack of proper oral tongue posture. Hypertrophy of the the muscles in the face that cause the bloated cheek look occurs due to certain habits. Dr. Mew describes the effect of hypertrophy on the buccinator muscles when you swallow by suckling, rather than using the action of the tongue on the mouth of the roof. When changing this habit for the proper form, does buccinator hypotrophy occur? If so, then how long is said process?
No, buccinators hypertrophy (become stronger) when used excessively in sucking food. After switch to swallowing with the tongue the buccinators atrophy (become weaker). You will start noticing a difference after one month, and the atrophy will continue for few months until completed. The challenging part is to train the neurological system to the new swallowing method. That can take allot longer and make the muscles atrophy allot slower.

is there a guide/video on this anywhere?
ahh you put your finger on the one sad reality of orthotropics, there is almost no one official guide for anything. Instead everything is spread out over so many videos and articles. One place to start is the swallowing training playlist on the orthotropics YouTube page:
