Ive been mewing for about 8 months and i think ive seen some progress but i dont think i can achieve much more progress due to my tongue tie. Do you think that could be the problem?? I just cant get my tongue completely up on my palette or get proper pressure because of it.
someone please give me some advice?
Are you sure it's a tongue tie, and not just an inability to posture: When you open your jaws fully, can you get the tip of your tongue to behind your back teeth easily?
If it is a full and tight tongue tie: no, it's not possible. The tongue can't get proper posture if it's being pulled down.
The tongue frenulum can be stretched with exercises. I recommend you try this fully, combined with stretching your neck and spine, before considering any surgical option.
@Progress: Apparently the frenulum is actually a ligament? Is it the central part of a ligament, or just a fleshy surrounding? I remember you said something about this earlier
If it actually is a central part of a ligament, it's even more important not to cut it. You should start stretching exercises if you haven't already
I can't remember if I have talked about frenulum being a ligament, but I have maintainted the belief that sometimes/often/always there is no true tie, only temporary immobility. I too would recommend daily stretching and strengthening of neck, shoulders and tongue for a few weeks before deciding whether cutting up frenulum could be worth it.
If I open my jaw all the way I can’t even touch the roof with my tongue. It can touch when it’s hAlf way open but yes I’m pretty confident it is tied down. What stretches are good?

1. By "all the way", are you pulling the mandible towards the neck or jutting it slightly forward?
2. If you try again, but this time stretch your mouth/neck so that the tendons in your neck activate (pic), do you find it easier to fight against the tie?

Im opening it down toward the neck. Flexing the neck didn't seem to make too much of a difference. But besides that what are good tongue stretches
That tongue tie looks similar to my daughter's which we didn't end up getting cut, and somehow she learned how to stretch her tongue in very impressive ways on her own. People will ask how does she do that? My tie is much less than hers but I can't do what she can. So I think a functional tongue is possible with a tie like that. I suspect with breastfeeding the tongue gets a big work out and maybe encourages an instinct to stretch the tie. Iirc myofunctional therapists can help with tongue exercises and stretching the tie, and I know myofunctional tongue exercises are easy to find online but tongue tie stretching is a bit more esoteric, hopefully someone can chime in there or a local myofunctional therapist can help you.
Remember this pain... and let it activate you.
heres an update i think ive made just a tiny bit of progress the real problem is i feel like i cant get sufficient pressure on the roof of the mouth. i can tell i definitely need forward growth but im not sure if i should push up with my tongue or push more forward where u can feel ur jaw tense
Is your palate vaulted?
Is your palate vaulted?
palate vaulted ? I've always seen members of this forum talking on the vaulted palate, I really do not know what it is that has some image that can show me example ?
A lei do esforço nunca falha
Vaulted palate is another term for high arched palate as shown by this wiki page.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-arched_palate
Also, see the attached slide image from this site: https://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/445555
Another skeletal abnormality is high-arched palate, which occurs in 35% of girls with Turner syndrome.[3] These pictures represent the various severities of a high-arched palate. Rather than a gentle curve, the high-arched palate is V- or U-shaped. The 10-year-old patient shown in the last photograph has a severely narrow and high palate, with marked dental crowding. This type of palate is sometimes referred to as a "cathedral" palate.
Maybe my dentist is a trigger happy with the tongue ties but my tongue tie is much less than yours and he is still suggesting that I release it. I feel I can get pretty decent pressure on my palate but then again I have no other reference point to compare to.
Also, @Rockyp33, you're mewing with your mouth closed right? I know, stupid question.
Yeah definitely do not have a vaulted palate. But yes i mew with mouth closed, overall i think my mewing and posture is pretty good because i focus on it alot but the main thing i want to achieve is forward growth because i know when that happens the lower jaw comes forward which is what im aiming for. IVe kinda theorized that because i never naturally got rid of the tongue tie like most people do its restricted some of my growth. Because in many ways the jaw follows the tongue, so if the tongue is not fully grown or extended the bones around it wont be either. so my tongue tie i think has restricted forward growth because u need to push up and u cant extend fully with it well its tied down. i know when mewing your supposed to push up with your tongue naturally when you swallow but i wonder if i should push my tongue more forward which tenses my jaw and seems to move it slightly forward.
I just did exactly like that and it is much much easier to get my tongue to the top. I feel almost no pressure. (the boxer photo)
Here is a picture as you can see it seems pretty restricted hopefully the stretching can help this
Wow, you are very tongue tied. I say that because your tongue has that typical V shape of severe tongue tie. I see a tie in the middle, and this is very weird: but it seems like your tongue is tied on the sides as well. I don't know if that's an actual thing lol. Maybe you have a posterior tongue tie? That whole area beneath your tongue seems way too wide. That's not something you can stretch. I think a procedure is definitely recommended in a case like yours.
Am I tongue tied ?
Open your jaws wide and try to touch the incisive papilla with the tip of your tongue. If you can your tongue is fine.
