So I was watching the mew push swallow youtube video for the 10th time (probably) and I still have trouble with one aspect of it. I realize when I have to gather liquid (saliva) from to completely dry my mouth with a swallow, the only way I can get all the liquid is to suck in my cheeks kind of like the guy on the warheads logo or the kind of sucking you do when sucking through a straw. The point it it seems like I may be overworking my buccinator muscles? Is this a problem?
In the video Mew says to gather saliva while keeping your mouth closed teeth together yada yada by lowering your tongue and pulling it back then sweeping the saliva onto the roof of your mouth for a swallow, but I really can't seem to do this. I can't push the saliva to roof of my mouth without sucking in my cheeks. And after I make this suction I usually have to open my mouth briefly to allow air in the stop the suction and reposition to get more salive. Anyway, I know this is hard to understand and but it is very hard to explain. Let me know if anyone has experienced this before.
its difficult to understand i have trouble with it becausse some salivia will escape and go on the outside of my teeth so sometimes i swallow incorrectly. i think the best way to learn is open your bite slightly do the cheesy smile and start to swallow and stop right before you do. youll feel your mouth suction up the liquid automatically. ive noticed if i just focus on swallowing instead of my tongue i seem to have much better form
I've had this exact same problem and have also watched that push swallow vid 10 times haha. Check out my post history. I am not sure if I am doing it right, but I can do the push swallow normally with tongue on the roof of my mouth a few times until saliva build up. Then, keeping my lips together and teeth together, I move my tongue off the roof of my mouth to the floor of the mouth so it touches the bottom row of teeth slightly. Since there is suction since my lips are closed, I end up sucking in on my lips, but it allows me to get the saliva on top of my tongue so I can swallow it. I am not sure if this is right but let me know if you find anything else out.

its easy to get it if you keep your bite open and lips open and try to swallow
It sounds like you guys are overthinking this. You don't have to completely evacuate your mouth of saliva with each tongue sweep. You'll still have some moisture in the floor of your mouth after withdrawing your tongue from its position on the roof of your mouth, skimming it along the floor and then undulating it back up onto your palate.

i think you have to put your tongue is the spot and the first step in swallowing is that the front of the tongue goes against the palate and creates a seal

I've been dwelling more on this and working on the mew push swallow and everything and still am not certain on this. I just know I'm doing something wrong. Mew says that there should be a "vacuum" on the top of the mouth (see this video), so that when you bring the tongue back and down, the liquid should be sucked onto the roof of the mouth. However, lets walk through this. If I bring my tongue back and down, there is no suction unless I suck in the infantile sucking way. Otherwise, if I try to "scoop" with my tongue, I just simply end up pushing the liquid through my front teeth and nothing gets sucked up to the roof of my mouth. I think the linchpin here is getting this "vacuum" and suction to take place. It could possible be that I just simply dont have enough room to create this vacuum (I have an extremely set back face).
