I have developed chipmunk cheeks from chewing hard gum all the time, advice?

So I experimented with chewing Mastic Gum every day 2x a day for half a year.

My jaw has become wider due to masseter muscle hypertrophy.

However, since gum was so big and hard I had to use open mouth to chew.

As a result, looking at side of my face, my cheeks muscles have also hypertrophied and I have developed a "fat" looking facial profile.

You might say that I have increased bodyfat, but this is false, I have actually lower body fat now (measured by Omron device). So with lower bodyfat my face looks "bulkier" due to chipmunk cheeks.

Is there a way to isolate only masseter muscles and train them exclusively? I don't want to train my cheeks, I want them to look hollow.

I will be stopping mastic gum chewing from now on and see if I can hollow out my cheeks again.

If anyone has any advice regarding this or maybe experience, kindly share.

To be honest, I'm not sure if closed mouth chewing won't cause you even bigger chipmunk cheeks, because you have to exert even more force to keep the lips sealed. I have my mouth more relaxed if I chew with open mouth.

You have to take in to account that I'm on an LGD-4033 SARMs cycle, so that only hypertrophies the muscle more.

I will be taking a break and report back to how my face changed. Then possibly try another chewing method, focusing on back teeth.

I don't know. If anyone can recommend a method to isolate only masseters, please do so.

I have to hypertrophy my masseter muscles as well.... so there is no way I'm giving up on chewing matic gum. The only thing I'm on however is HGH from fasting and HIIT. Subscribing to the thread for answers. I hope you find one OP. I want hollow cheeks as well.

I think there is a way. It is avoiding gum and chewing something else that activates only your masseter and allows you to isolate chewing on back teeth. There are these rectangular gum chewies that I got from my myotherapist. They are hard rubber and you can push them to back of your mouth and chew on each side. I notice when I do this, my cheeks don't work. Only the molars and jaw muscles.

I'm gonna switch mastic gum to these narrow chewies and see if that helps.

That is some really good info and makes sense. I will focus on proper swallowing without involving buccinators and cheek muscles, only tongue and throat + will stop chewing mastic and replace it with chewies on back teeth. Will see if over next 6 months I develop more hallow cheeks while maintaining relatively chiseled jaw.

Weirdly enough I can safely say that OMC helped me getting more hollow cheeks. In my opinion, the only muscle which hinders hollow cheeks ist the buccinator which only gets trained by false swallowing as described above. You could also have a look at the zygomaticus muscle, which is besides having strong masseter and good cheekbones also benificial for hollow cheeks. Jon Kortajena has a very strong zygomaticus muscle. I think you can hypertrophy the muscle with especially the first and maybe also the second exercise :

Everything i've read on this topic says that open mouth chewing will not cause you to develop those chipmunk cheeks as you're not using your buccinators as much causing them to atrophy which will mean you develop hollow cheeks. I also think that first exercise is the opposite of what you want to do as it works mainly the buccinators from what I can tell which will only make them bigger.

I don't think lip sealing is a function of the buccinator guys

Reminder that over exercising any muscle for too long can trigger certain hormonal/stress responses that could potentially impact fat/water storage. When I over exercised in my gym rat days I would see the opposite of progress -- diminishment and stress response markers (muscle weakness/exhaustion for prolonged periods; lactic acid build up; etc.).

Also the proper swallowing is ideal too. I think part of it is genetic on how your body's muscle and fat storage plus hypertrophy/etc. is handled.

Cheeks looking fat can also be water retention. LGD isn't androgenic but combined with calorie surplus or eating high carbs/sodium your body can hold more water and fat on your face. Also it could be making cheek muscle bigger and stronger since it is anabolic -- especially if using the buccinator muscle swallowing incorrectly. Try the tongue push swallow too.

Also try light fasting, HIIT exercise, and just drinking a lot of water while cutting sodium and sugars every other day.

The hormone you're talking about is cortisol. , occlusion also helps in a good jawline
