Some of the change is head angle, some of it is lightning. In spite of these illusions, it seems that legitimate skeletal change could have taken place (the change seems surprisingly similar to Plato's & Ian's facepulling results). The intense physical demands of Marine training are likely designed to encourage the exhausted recruits to engage every muscle they got in order to keep up with the pace. Proper posture gets "programmed" into the recruits through diversity and intensity of daily exercise. Those who experience the greatest changes during marine training must be those who end up learning proper posture out of necessity.

Here is the original picture in case someone is interested:

I wonder if this is even a real person though. Guy looks in 6 weeks better than some people do in years.

Really interesting how his lower third seems to have evened out, but his eyebrow shape and symmetry have completely changed, as has his eye shape.

I'm not sure I've seen it anywhere, but what do you think causes the changes on the upper third/half of the face, rather than the bottom? Just a domino effect?

"it seems legitimate skeletal change could have taken place"

I doubt it.   The photo is darker, he's put on some weight (perhaps muscle tone leading to an associated postural improvement), and he is squinting.

I imagine his facial muscles and expression have been changed due to 6 weeks of hard discipline and rigorous physical training i.e a rise in testosterone.

The demands of INTENSIVE physical excersise does seem to link with proper facial form. Look at UFC fighters, boxers, NFL player's you would be hard pressed to find one with a recessed chin, despite some who are genetically inclined (negroid feature).

Well people with recessed chins wouldn't do well in sports to begin with because their breathing is compromised. It isn't that sports makes you this way but rather you can't be a pro athlete with a poor airway/recessed maxilla.

But one has to consider that the very high T levels in these men (and including their prenatal T) factors into their facial development. But high T features =/= proper facial development necessarily.

Although I agree I haven't seen an athlete with a recessed maxilla/midface deficiency/or like you said a recessed chin.

The West African chin tends to be weaker but this is more mandible bone related that maxilla. More of an environmental adaptation. The same thing happens in the Mediterranean. Weaker chins than Northern Europe.

Hot climates tend to go with genetically small chins. Maybe it has to do with how the body nourishes itself .

@eddiemoney Did you watch FIFA world cup this summer? I was really surprised at how prevalent CFD was among the players. Many had anterior pelvic tilt. Even more had forward head posture. Every now and then, when they showed clips from games of 70s and 80s, the difference in both facial form and motions executed while running with the ball were distinctly different.

Soccer players must be extraordinarily vulnerable to poor posture due to having to look down at the ball and feet so much of the time. Hockey players seem to suffer less from this. I suspect that the flat-insoled design of an ice skate demands so much from the muscles of the feet that the postural chains between the legs and hips are encouraged to fully activate, which in turn will generate  adequate support for the spine. In addition, soccer shoes are often slightly elevated and cushioned at the heel, which really imbalances the anatomical mechanism of the feet/legs/hips.
