Doing this the last 2 weeks has pretty much turned my chin tuck into a subconscious habit.
- Lie down on the floor on your stomach. Extend your arms above your head, palms touching the floor.
- Once you're in position, chin tuck. You should feel a stretch in the back of your neck/upper spine
- Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 40-50 times a day, or how ever many reps you feel you need.
This position gives you a level of leverage over your neck/upper muscles that you can't really reach by chin tucking while standing. Bonus activity: Walk 2-3 miles a day while chin tucking. The combination of these two things will make it a subconscious habit in no time.
Your head is lifted slightly above the floor so no part of your face touches it. Basically do what you need to to feel the stretch in the back of your neck.
It sounds like you are exercising the cervical externsor muscles more than the deep capital flexors with this position.

You might be right. I'm not familiar with the neck muscles. All I know is it works really well when training head posture.

Ok, try this if you are interested in finding the difference. Lay on your back instead of your chest, and perform the chin tuck. Do you feel the neck muscles contracting exactly the same way or more at the front behind the lower jaw with this exercise?
