Yesterday I got my custom MSE installed. Initially we were going to get the MSE installed but my ortho said my palate was too narrow so he customized it to make it look like this.

It's still appears to be bone-borne with 4 TADs screwed into my palate. Before installing the MSE, he performed a corticotomy to weaken the resistance of the mid-palatal suture.

Guys, I sound very weird! And after the installation was extremely painful. I am in so much pain but he prescribed me some pain meds to deal with some of the pain. I was told each turn is .25 mm and I am waiting for the suture to split to see my diastema appear. So far 7 turns I believe.

Only thing I am concerned is if it will be as effective, if not more effective than the Won Moon MSE...we will see.

Update: It's been 3 days since installation and so far no diastema. Last night I heard a faint cracking noise and it might have been my suture. The pain that I still is around my cheekbones but mostly around the molar bands the doctor installed. The pain around my molar bands is similar to when I had my spacers/separators.

So far 11 turns and no diastema. We will see.

Update: It's been exactly one week since the installation and I don't feel anymore pain (right now). Yesterday there was a lot of pain emanating from the molars on my upper jaw. I am following up with the doctor next week. Probably to take a new CBCT and determine if there is any screw bending going on. So far no diastema.

@oatmeal

The diastema has yet to form. I made 14 turns in the first week. There is absolutely no pain on the palate or teeth during this second week as I've stopped turning. My ortho said 14 turns, as each turn is .25 mm so I will not turn anymore until my next appointment.

Did you get your sutures surgically split?

@agendum

Yes, it was a corticotomy that the orthodontist performed prior to the installation of the MSE. He did this to loosen up the suture.

So it was just a mid palatal split without splitting the the middle of the maxilla to the nasal floor?
