Weighted jaw clenching has a similar effect as chewing/mewing?

I know chewing -- specifically open mouth chewing -- has its upsides and no downsides I can think of. OMC is definitely better than CMC and you can feel the difference in how it's so. I get bored of chewing and/or run out of gum sometimes and try weighted jaw clenching inbetween.

Is there a similar effect here? Like with the maxilla/cheekbones/dental arch/etc.? I use stuff like 10-20-30 lb. weights and suspend them by my teeth and just hold them for sets (like a jaw workout). I pushed myself hard and even felt it in the temporalis muscle which became sore the next day from heavy exertion.

Do you think this has to have a similar effect as chewing on progress? I also work the neck because I believe it's somewhat synergistic -- that the neck helps support the head/skull posture, which in turn is helped by supportive facial muscles/so forth/etc. Clenching does work the neck muscles too, so it's a two-for-one kind of thing. What do you guys think? It's kinda like pretending you're a dog for 5 or so minutes by biting/holding on to something vigorously. LOL.

This works the jaw/entire face well seemingly & my masseter is noticeably stronger/bigger (probably more of a thing for guys to seek, but just saying)

How do you hold the weights between your teeth? Or do you anchor them to a towel or something?

I feel like this might also stimulate effects of face pulling.

Can the jaw really hold a 30 lb weight safely? And your teeth, are they meant to handle that?

Chewing is tedious for sure but not sure about 30 lbs. I'll experiment with my 1lb dumbbell. So you just clench down on the dumbbell...?

eta: so do you do Mew's "cheesy grin", and clench down on the weight?

Yeah. Human bite force (men/women different of course) tends to be around 100 lbs. on average I think. Your teeth -- assuming they're in good health -- should be able to hold 30 lbs. without breaking/moving (but jaw strength is necessary).

I just throw the weights in some satchel/pouch/etc. and hold it either by a draw string/towel/anything easy to put your teeth around and secure well.

If it hurts your neck you can just lean your head sideways on something and left the weights suspend at an angle (think an edge of a bed).

Also it does have some very minimal facepulling benefits I think, but the jaw can only manage to hold so long, especially with heavy weights so it's no better really than reverse pull headgear or towel/belt pulling.

If you have a decent jaw, a 1 lb. dumbbell will feel like a feather. Or at least to me it probably would...

Thanks for feedback. Maybe a weighted Mackenzie chin tuck with head over the edge of a bed could be good, I'll be experimenting. I wonder if I can figure out how to help resolve my jaw asymmetry with this method...

It's good for masseter, but without open mouth chewing, mewing, face pulling/reverse pulling it doesn't do well except give you a wider lower third mostly.

It's good as I said for guys or girls who have weak jaws and want stronger masseter and maybe mandible gets affected by this, I don't know, but just one piece of the puzzle unfortunately. You probably need entire facial muscle balance and structure/posture to achieve the ideal strcutural face if you're lagging

I'm thinking of buying one of those reverse pull headgear things on Amazon/ebay since it's much less tiring than face pulling and easier to multi-task, but I don't know if it's possible to set one up without professional or expertise of some sort. Any one here know about that?

I talked about something similar on reddit but nobody told me anything. Not precisely using weights but opposite force using your fingers against your lower teeth. Or even against your chin, I saw those excersices and others many years ago on this video. Its in spanish but you dont need to listen really

Just with a towel or drawstring/cloth/etc. Anything that isn't too difficult to bite and hold on to.

I'm just wondering if this has more benefits than drawbacks when it comes to the jaw and chewing like motion/exercise in general as opposed to open mouth/close mouth chewing or such.
