Hey guys,
Been learning about proper tongue posture for a while. My question is, I can place the tongue tip near the incisive papilla and the middle/back of my tongue on the roof of my mouth, but then saliva builds up in the bottom of my mouth and I need to revert back to an improper swallowing technique to get rid of it. In more detail, for about 15 seconds I can maintain proper tongue position, but by that time enough saliva has built up that I need to put my tongue back down to the bottom of my mouth to move the saliva back to my throat.
I can't figure out how to maintain proper tongue posture and also not have an annoying saliva build up several times a minute. Or is it normal to have to move your tongue to the bottom of your mouth every 15 seconds or so? After this, it takes me another few seconds to re establish the right tongue position so it is harder and more mentally challenging to maintain it for long periods of time. I would appreciate any help, has anyone experienced something similar? Thanks.

Suction it so that it makes its way to your tongue, then swallow.
I do this with CBD drops myself. I let it sit for 30 seconds on my bottom jaw and then suction it to let the tongue do the swallowing.
Hey guys, I have watched the videos now and I understand a little bit but I am still a bit confused. I can do the tongue on palate swallow and the mona lisa swallow, which means with my tongue on the palate but without any facial movement. If I constantly swallow about every 5 seconds, I will prevent much saliva from building up so I don't have an issue. But this can't apply to when you have liquid in your mouth like when you drink water . This also doesn't work when I wait more than 10 seconds in between swallows since saliva builds up underneath the tongue.
I have watched videos about the tongue sweep but when I do this, since there is suction on the roof of the mouth, if I sweep the tongue down to collect the saliva it will cause me to suck on my teeth/lips at the front of the mouth. So I can swallow with my teeth and lips together, but I thought there was not supposed to be any suction on the teeth. I am not sure how you can get the saliva from underneath the tongue to on top of the tongue without sucking on your teeth/lips slightly.
Thanks for your help.

In a structurally undeveloped mouth, adopting tongue posture can cause the tongue and other musculature surrounding the salivary glands to squeeze the gland due to there not being enough room in the mouth for the anatomy to work properly. I used to salivate excessively too. It has leveled out with time.

One thing that can help is pushing the underside of the tongue against the interior side of the chinbone and lower incisors. When the salivary glands are sealed in such way, there should be no excessive buildup.

Don't get too obsessed with it, I remember when I was starting, a lot of saliva was produced in my mouth, I believe it's because the salivary glands open up when you rise your tongue. But don't worry, with time everything finds its equilibrium.
And regarding the swallowing, the same with time you will loose the need to get rid of the totality of saliva below your tongue by sucking with your cheeks, you only need to get swallow normally and the enough saliva will get swallowed. Not sure if you understood, let me know. The key is developing the correct habit, the rest is easy.
I understand somewhat but not totally. Do you guys end up sucking on your teeth when doing the tongue sweep? I can move my tongue and change the way it sweeps so that the suction is more on the front upper teeth, or balanced suction between the front upper and front bottom teeth, or mostly on the front bottom teeth. Still, I don't see how it is possible to maintain suction in the mouth and suck the saliva up on top of the tongue so it can be swallowed without suction on the lips/teeth also occuring.
For reference, I can do the tongue-on-palate swallow a few times until it has been 10-15 seconds, when the saliva builds up underneath the tongue and I have to do a tongue sweep, and this makes me suck on my teeth. I believe it is normal to have to tongue sweep every 10-15 seconds, but I think it is wrong that I am sucking on my teeth during the tongue sweep since I thought this is bad form and puts force on the teeth the wrong way.
Yes, I have noticed a bit more saliva than normal. Still, even if there were less, I would still need to do the swallow where I suck on my teeth slightly, although maybe less frequently. But I would still have the same problem. If I don't use any suction, the saliva won't get up above the tongue since it is not getting sucked up, so I can't swallow it. But if I do use suction, I can swallow the saliva but then also I feel suction on my front lips/teeth.
Do any of you guys experience similar? Is there a way to tongue sweep without causing this suction on the teeth/lips?

i believe you just break the suction and suck it to the roof then swallow and repeat
i believe you just break the suction and suck it to the roof then swallow and repeat
Thanks for the response, see that's why I'm confused. How do I suck it to the roof if I just broke the suction? My question is that the only way I can get the saliva to the roof is through sucking, but that also means I will suck on my teeth. Or I can avoid sucking on my teeth but then the saliva just stays on the floor of my mouth under my tongue.

I am also new to Mewing and I have the exact same problem that you have described. Have you managed to figure out the solution?
To elaborate I put my lips together teeth lightly touching or slightly apart and my tongue flat on the top of my palate, 0.5 inches behind my front teeth. I think I have the hang of swallowing as I am feel comfortable creating the seal with just my tongue against the top of my mouth, nor do I need to engage any fascial muscles. The problem is manoeuvring the saliva build up to a swallowable position. I have 2 techniques none of which are in my opinion correct.
1. Sucking the saliva onto the top of the tongue through the sides of the mouth.
This pulls on the sides of the teeth and doesn't work with the cheesy smile, it also produces weird looking movements below the chin. I've also heard it's an indication that I'm not engaging the back third of my tongue. If I train myself to only do this before I swallow and not every few seconds it does feel like the most natural solution.
2. Temporarily lowering the tongue and sucking the saliva to be on top.
This pulls also pulls on the teeth but only the front ones, repetitions cause an uncomfortable vacuum which pulls on the gums with worrying force.
Mew's instructions of: 'pull back the tongue, lower it, and sweep, either fail to raise the saliva or transform into my incorrect method 2. But then again I'm lightly tongue tied so I can't move my tongue back further than I already have it to hold it against the palate.
He says that we're supposed to swallow 4-6 times a minute so ignoring the saliva isn't the correct way to go. Does anyone have any advice?
I have the exact same problem and i am really worried about it. So far I haven't found a single solution to it. If anyone can help out i would be very grateful.
Same problem here, help would be great.
