I would do it. They were wrong when they said expanders only worked on children, and adolescents.
People in their fifties and sixties have seen substantial improvements with expanders.
Being younger, you will make faster progress. And, perhaps, more progress.
I think the Homeoblock/DNA appliance is probably, mechanically, superior. And would produce better results.
