How to improve your voice by "tongue power": voice professional teaches the right way to strengthen your tongue
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4065020425

This book is about how to improve your voice. I finished reading the book and found an interesting topic which is the position of your tongue when you speak. The author says that when you speak, the posterior tongue should be high and the anterior tongue should be low. This is the right position. And the tip of your tongue should be “v” shape but not flat. You can feel this easily when you say “Woooo”.

The right tongue shape when you say “Uh”. You can see the “v” shape.

Like the picture above, both sides of the tongue is as high as the molars. The air goes through the center of the tongue.

This means even if you talk all day, you always push your teeth to not make the palate narrow.
The author also says if your tongue is low, your voice will be muffled.

I tried to do this but I couldn’t. My molars block the posterior tongue to be high since I have a narrow palate. And the tip of my tongue becomes really round and thick when I raise the posterior of my tongue. For me, it’s impossible to do this and have no idea how to do. Anyway, I hope this might help you.

Very interesting! Is the posterior against the soft palate?

The author doesn't mention it. From the picture in my post, I don't think the tongue is pushing the palate hard.

How to improve your voice by "tongue power": voice professional teaches the right way to strengthen your tongue

Does the book have any interesting recommendations for tongue-strengthening exercises?

Improve your voice in what way? Mellow, higher, lower, or more powerful please tell me.

How do I achieve this?

Is the tongue supposed to be up there for every vowel, or just when you're talking?

Does this do anything to my bone formation?

Thank you, that is all.

There's one here
/community/community/main-forum/lip-strengthening/#post-10202

It's simple. First, you stick your tongue out. Do not open your mouth. Then, shorten the width of your mouth by your lips. Shorten your mouth until your tongue looks like a pole. Use only lip muscle but not the tongue. Repeat this 10 times wherever you can.

And I found these two exercises below might be helpful:

[Straw suck exercise]

  1. Cut a plastic straw half
  2. Put it on your tongue deeply
  3. Close the hole of the straw by your finger
  4. Suck the straw until the straw becomes flat by air pressure but not tongue pushing the straw nor using cheek muscle
  5. Release sucking
  6. Repeat 4 and 5 for 10 times

To be able to execute this exercise, the posterior third of your tongue has to fully raise and fill the gap between the palate and the tongue.

[Back tongue stretch exercise]

  1. Open your mouth as high as you can, at least 1 finger high
  2. The tip of your tongue touches the back of the incisors (the spot)
  3. Slide your tongue from the spot to the soft palate as far as possible
  4. Slide back to the spot
  5. Repeat from 2 to 4 for 3 times
  6. Close your mouth
  7. Repeat from 2 to 4 for 3 times

The book recommends you to do this exercise from time to time wherever you can.|
Some people can release their tongue tie naturally during this exercise.

I'm not sure I totally understand the exercise with the straw, but this "back tongue stretch exercise" sounds similar to the nabho mudra (aka stage 1 khechari mudra) described in this thread ( /community/community/case-discussions/a-better-anchor-for-the-whole-tongue-for-mewing-imho-it-will-cut-by-half-or-less-the-time-it-takes-to-seeing-result/# ). I've been experimenting with it for a couple weeks and think it's helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Forming your tongue in specific ways to say words affects your accent. But if you have an accent that uses various vowel sounds I am sure the specific shape of the tongue per vowel does not matter.

For example Irish people don't say the "uh" vowel with the tongue in that shape where British people would. But British facial development isn't really affected positively or negatively (compared to the Irish who have a different accent) because of this.

That said I do think tongue against palate during speech can help mewing progress go faster. But specific vowel sounds/change my accent? That I do not see as necessary.

Am I doing it wrong if it sounds muffled are drowned out. Is this because my palate is narrow or I'm doing it incorrectly.
